In 1907, Northlake annexed adjacent portions of Brainard Heights which had been part as part of Cicero Township (now parts of Lemont and Glenview). In 1920, Southwestern Illinois Normal School opened its doors in North Lake Forest; it would later become Northwestern Illinois State University. In 1925, Northwestern dissolved its partnership with ISU to form Chicagoland Teachers College; NORTC would remain an affiliated school until 1961 when it merged into Ivey Business School at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). The city limits have changed multiple times since their inception: On one side was a small village called "Niles"; on another side was Northwest Drury Avenue which bisected downtown before becoming Cook County Road 509 connecting Cook County east towest and north tosouth through town while also serving as an arterial road between Aurora Hills east and Lake View Terrace west. While no longer within city limits there has been some reclamation around Niles Creek - currently home to several apartment complexes - removing all or most trees making way for high-density housing developments including two shopping malls complete with movie theaters as well as businesses such as restaurants/bars/hospitals combined with single family homesites once again within city limits giving residents more control over their surroundings than ever before! The current City Hall building was built in 1960 by developer Harry Buell using proceeds from his $5 million bond issue which funded construction of what would eventually become one of America's largest freeways stretching from Cook County Airport northeast across town providing much needed public transportation connections allowing people living near intersections without having to walk many blocks away or take various other forms of transportation options abound today!

The population of Northlake increased from 350 to 3,000 over the course of a few decades. However, during this time there were no major advances or advancements made within the community that would attract businesses and people to live and work here; instead, most development came about through word-of-mouth gossip, with small businesses filling up with local residents who frequented them for their goods and services.
