Northbrook is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,782 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Chicago after Chicago Heights. Northbrook is bordered by Des Plaines to the south and west; Plano to the north and east; and Vernon Hills to the northeast. The area that now makes up Northbrook was first settled by Germans in 1847. A small community called Niles was founded in 1849, but it soon disappeared due to low populations and economic reasons. In 1861, a group of Dutch farmers named de Valk established a small town called Roelandt on land they had purchased from General David Dixon in what is now Northbrook Township. De Valk renamed his new town Northbrook after himself because he felt that he had brought peace and prosperity to his area with his business ventures there. In 1872, Italian immigrants named Lupi moved into an area near Roelandt which became known as Mount Prospect Park until 1912 when it was annexed into Northbrook proper. In 1898, two brothers named John Daley bought land east of present-day Loop 610th Street between 95th and 96th Streets for $4,000 cash (the first public lot sales in Chicago). They started a grocery store on this property which became one of the largest grocery stores in Chicago during its early years. John Daley served as mayor of Chicago from 1941-1944 while also serving as chairman of Cook County Board of Education from 1955-1957. He then died suddenly weeks before his term ended at age 80 leaving behind several children who ran their father's businesses until they took over upon their father's death in 1978—a process that took many years since no one person could serve more than three terms as Mayor or Chairman of CBOE). On December 12th 1978 current Mayor Richard Moseley announced that he would be running for re-election against incumbent Daley son James Daley Sr., Jr.. James Daley Sr., Jr., won by large margins becoming first African AmericanMayor of Chicago with over 60% of the vote . Northbrook is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was established in 1892 and has remained an agricultural center since its inception. Northbrook is located on the north side of Chicago and bordered by the towns of Downers Grove to the east, Harvey to the south-southwest, and Elmhurst to the west. The population of Northbrook was 6,397 at the 2010 census. The first people who lived in what is now Northbrook were Native Americans. In 1892, John A. Laughlin founded a flour mill in what is now Northbrook and named it after himself. The mill began operations andproduced flour for local markets until 1922 when it merged with another company to form Champion Flour Mills Incorporated. During World War II, Northbrook became one of five towns in Cook County that took part in supplying soldiers with foodstuff from their mills; these mills produced items such as ammunition, tires, blankets and other war supplies for use by Illinois troops fighting on both European soil and at home. Afterward, most of Champion's production shifted towards providing products for local grocery stores throughout Cook County rather than exportation or manufacturing into distant countries like Japan or Russia; however someaments still continue today (e.g., chocolates) made from flour that was produced at Champion Mill back before deregulation caused many processors to consolidation over time In 1984–1985 Widespread Panic played two sets at “The Congress” venue which seat 10 000 people capacity – this show was filmed live on video!
