In 1938, Mrs. Clara Ladd opened her own store on the same spot and continued to sell targets until her death in 1954. Mr. Fred Wessels operated his business from 1951-1978; he is credited with being the first person to use electric targets. From 1978-1983, Mr. Bob Donahue ran the business; he is also credited with introducing adjustable sights to target shooters in Illinois. Beginning in 1984, Mr. Rick Sell did business as the Target Holder at 666 Main Street; this business lasted until 1992 when it was closed due to economic problems. In 1994, Mr’ Frank Ziegler took over operations of the Target Holder at 667 Main Street and has been running it ever since.
Northbrook is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,852 at the 2010 census. Northbrook is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was founded in 1867 by Nicholas North and his family. It became a town in 1871 and then a city in 1907. Northbrook is one of the most recent villages to be formed within Cook County; other villages that have formed since 2007 include Hoffman Estates, Elmhurst, and Naperville. The first post office in Northbrook opened on July 15, 1867. Northbrook has had several name changes over its years: "Nicholas North's Village", "Northeast City", "Civic Center Village", "Village of Nicholas South", and finally "Northbrook" in 1907 when it became an incorporated city under the name of Chicago. In addition to its namesake Nicholas North (1811-1892), another early settler were John Horseshoe along with his brother Ebenezer Horseshoe (1797-1881). In 1870 Ebenezer married Sarah Goodspeed who also came from Nicholas Township east of Chicago. They raised four children: Sarah Jane (b 1830), John Goodspeed (b 1840), Mary Cathernia (b 1850), and Amanda Goodspeed Horseshoe (b 1860). Four more children were born after their parents' death but none survived beyond infancy: Anna Mina Horseshoe Sellars(d 1865), Sidney Austin Sellars(d 1865), Charles Valentine Sellars(d 1865) - three siblings who all died young including sisters AmandaGoodspeedHorseshoeandAnnaMinaSellars. On December 20th 1861 when he was only 24 years old Nicholas petitioned for incorporation into the new Town of Beecher as well as setting up business there before moving his operations back to Nicholas Township where he already had some property situated according to records kept by Adam Decatur Stansbury which date back to 1796 . He served as Clerk from 1870 until his death on May 4th 1893 . After her husband's death Sarah moved back west with their two youngest children under eight months old before she died suddenly aged 58 yrs old on November 8th 1901 at her home 522 W 44th StChicago IL 60611

Northbrook was founded in 1871 by General David Dixon and his wife Fanny Dixon as a small farming community on a tract of land leased from the government. Northbrook grew rapidly due to its natural resources, which included coal and lumber, but also because it was close to Chicago and its markets. In 1925, Northbrook became a town when it annexed the adjacent village of Arlington Heights. The city of Northbrook merged with the village of Arlington Heights on January 1, 2007 to form one municipality with a population of 605 residents. In 2000, Northbrook approved plans for what would become one of the largest private housing developments in Illinois history - Vista Ridge Estates - which would eventually house over 100 thousand people. The Vista Ridge development is still under construction today and will soon be completed after years of planning and construction efforts by developers led by Mayor Richard Monell and City Manager John Hynes
On October 1, 1847, a group of men from Northbrook formed the first town in Illinois. The name was chosen because it was the only one that had been given to them by the United States government. Northbrook was located on a tract of land that had been purchased by General James K. Polk from Native Americans in 1846. The town site is now part of the city of Chicago.
