In 1847–48, work began to build what would eventually become known as Griggs Hall which still occupies its current location on Griggs Avenue just south of Conant Drive SE; this building served as both a courthouse and school until 1983 when it was replaced by Holy Cross Catholic High School which stands today on that site across from Parkrose Shopping Center across Conant Drive SE from Griggs Hall). On October 15th 1853, South Side politician David Dixon offered Butterfield Township 5 acres adjacent to where Griggs Hall now stands for sale to act as an open space for farming within Chicago's limits - defined then as only Lake Michigan to the south and east while also including parts or all of our present day suburbs including Lawndale, Oak Lawn etc.; Dixon's offer became known as 'Northgrove'. On November 2nd same year Dixon submitted platting plans with names such as Randolph where he proposed naming streets after prominent South Side citizens; these designs included Wabash Ave., Douglas Ave., Prairie Ave., Lincoln Dr./Lincoln Rd., Grandview Blvd./Grannis Plats
