The history of gun swivels goes back to the early 1800s. At that time, many farmers in Northbrook used traditional methods to hold their firearms, such as using a belt holster or using an old fishing net strap. However, there was no easy way for people to aim and fire a firearm without difficulty. So, some farmers began to experiment with different ways of holding their firearms. One method used by these farmers was to place the barrel of their firearm on top of a roundabout or other sturdy object and then use a swivel arm to rotate the weapon around its axis. This method allowed people to firesmoke from several different positions while still having access to the firearm's barrel and ammunition.

They were later developed into artillery pieces and eventually served as the primary weapon for American forces during World War I and World War II.
Northbrook is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,811 at the 2010 census. Northbrook is part of the Chicago–Naperville metropolitan area. It is bordered by Addison to the north and west, Wheaton to the east and south, and Downers Grove to the southwest. The land that now makes up Northbrook was first settled in 1847 by Quincey Calloway and his wife Sarah Belle Reece Calloway. They were farmers who bought land from Major Jesse Kimball of Rockford Township. The first post office in Northbrook was established in 1853. In 1857, John Cushing opened a gristmill on what is now Main Street. A bridge over the River Pekin was built nearby in 1861. The town's namesake came from local farmer George Hutton Northbrook (1816-1900). He donated $5 for a road to be built through his township so people could get to him easier when he had markets near his home on Crystal Lake Road (now Butterworth Road). When this road was completed in 1868, Northbrook quickly became an important transportation center forDuPage County residents as it served as a direct route between Chicago and other parts of the Great Lakes region. In 1896, Northbrook voters approved annexation by Downers Grove into DuPage County; however, this annexation did not take place because Downers Grove citizens voted against it at an election that year. In 1907, when Du Page County broke up into two parts due to racial violence during World War I – one led by Barack Obama Sr., who moved to Hyde Park – Northbrook joined the new county as its last village before it split again in 1920 into down-town Aurora Heights and annexed by Aurora Heights' larger neighbor Plainfield Township which also included all ofDowners Grove proper within its boundaries but without any recognition from either side for how much longer these areas would remain unified with one another before finally splitting apart again about 10 years later as Northwestern Aurora High School began enrolling students there after Plainfield Township abandoned their efforts to revive themselves as a high school following World War II despite protests from somerontiers living within Plainfield Township who wanted their own high school there) This process lasted until 1945 when both communities lost their charter status within du Page County due largely to corporate consolidation policies implemented at that time by then-Governor Orville Crane under pressure from local NBCUniversal executives who felt they needed more contiguous territory around Chicago so they could expand even further into former Cook County farmland those same executives had helped create through various acquisitions including Wacker Drive (later Wacker Avenue) which ran along current Route 21 across Aurora Heights borders forming what is now McLean Blvd.) However business consolidation has never been banned outright throughout CookCounty history; instead successive governors have simply granted charters or exempted certain businesses from consolidations while others have been granted exceptions such as Dan Ryan’s attempts over many years ago unsuccessfully petitions submitted with state legislators seeking authority allowing him allow heavy industrial development adjacent/within original white picket fences lining Kane Rd./North Sidebordering Logan Square/Upper West Side.) Northbrook, Illinois is a village located in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 28,823 as of the 2010 census. Northbrook was founded in 1847 by John C. North and his wife Anna Ladd. It became a town in 1865 and then a village in1927. In 1950, it became part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town of Northbrook merged with South Elgin to form the city of Elgin on March 15, 2009.
In 1812, the first permanent settler in Northbrook, Illinois was Nicholas Johnson. In 1814, the town was platted and named after General John C. Fremont. The first post office in Northbrook opened in 1815. In 1830, a school was built and named Northbrook Academy. The town also had a jail and a blacksmith shop. In 1837, the town had a population of about 150 people and it contained four stores and three public buildings including the courthouse which still stands today. In 1880, Northbrook lost its status as an incorporated town when it became part of Rockford Township. It had a population of about 500 people when it joined Rockford Township but by 1910 it had dwindled to just 100 people due to World War I-eragements and other factors such as changes in agricultural production causing incomes to drop throughout much of central Illinois In 1969, Northbrook absorbed neighbouring Westmont into its municipality limits making it one of the few towns in Illinois that have both municipalities with equal populations (the others are Dixon Heights (1970), East Stroudsburg (1991)), though this arrangement is not currently operative due to recent reviews by the state legislature finding that Westmont's annexation violated township-level planning guidelines . The current mayor is Kathy Ziegler who took office on January 1st 2019
