Ammunition has been a part of Northbrook, Illinois, since the early 1800s. The first ammunition store in Northbrook was established in 1794. From then until the late 1800s, ammunition was all that was available to our citizens. During this time, there were many different types of ammunition and it was often difficult to find what you were looking for. In 1876, William Duryea started manufacturing rounds for handguns in Northbrook. This allowed us to start importing rounds from other countries which greatly helped our economy. In 1906, Armour & Company began making cartridges for rifles in Northbrook. This allowed us to get into the rifle market and make a better impact on our community. During World War II, we produced munitions for both the United States and Great Britain. We manufactured artillery shells and grenades as well as bullets and mines. Our company remained active until 1954 when it closed down due to economic conditions. Since then, there have been several different companies that have come into existence within the Ammunition industry including Brownells Inc., Hornady Manufacturing Corporation, Milbroek Arms AG etcetera etcetera etcetera). Each company has had their own unique strengths and weaknesses which has resulted in them remaining successful over the years. Today, Ammunition is still an important part of our society and economy with multiple companies providing various calibers of ammo across a variety of firearms platforms

It grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location as the only stop on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad between Chicago and Galveston. The city became an industrial center during the early 20th century with many companies such as Armour Heinz Corporation, American Cyanamid Company, Ford Motor Company, Sears Roebuck & Co., General Electric Electric Company and Wabash Railway Corporation located there. The population declined during the Great Depression but rose again following World War II when industry shifted to South Korea and Japan. In recent decades Northbrook has become a home for higher-education institutions such as Northern Illinois University Carbondale and DuPage Community College.

During World War II, ammunition production shifted again as bombers began using incendiary weapons which required high levels of explosive energy that could not be delivered through artillery shells or mortar rounds

Northbrook was founded on November 1, 1847 by George Thornton and John Leland as Northbrook Township. It was incorporated as a city on February 14, 1968. The first mayor of Northbrook was Richard J. Daley who served from 1967 to 1971. The current mayor is Joseph Monee who took office in January 2017
On November 3, 1847, the first election in Northbrook was held. The population of Northbrook was only 568 people. On January 1, 1850, a new town was organized in Northbrook with a population of 2,814 people.
