North Aurora, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. North Aurora is bordered by Will County to the west and south, DuPage County to the southeast, Lake County to the east and north, and Kane County to the northwest. The first European settlers arrived in what is now North Aurora in 1836. The current town was organized on February 17, 1868 from parts of Will county. The first post office was established inNorth Aurora on March 1st of that year. There were only 11 residents when it opened its doors. By 1870 there were over 100 people living in North Aurora. In 1898 North Aurora had a school system with 3 schools and 2 gymnasiums (the first high school being built in 1902). In 1954 North Aurora became part of suburban Chicago when all of Kane County was annexed into Chicago. North Aurora is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. North Aurora is bordered by Schaumburg to the north, Aurora to the east, Winnetka to the southeast, and Cicero to the south. The first people known to live in what is now North Aurora were members of the Algonquian-speaking Potawatomi tribe. They arrived on a small boat from Harbor Island in Lake Michigan about 1800. About 1847 they built their first permanent home on a hill overlooking what is now North Aurora Park. The first store in town was called "The Hermitage" and opened in 1848 by Elisha Wellman. In 1861 John Prentice founded Prairie View School District No. 1 which included North Aurora and other villages within its boundaries. He also founded North America Paper Company which produced paper for local newspapers such as "The Daily Review" and "The Northwestern". In 1916 he donated land for Northwestern University's McCormick School of agriculture and became one of its founders. The current campus of Northwestern University was founded in 1947 with his gift of land north of present day Northwestern Drive between Nagle Road and Wacker Drive (now Forest Glen Drive). In 1949 he donated land east of present day Nagle Road between Forest Glen Drive and Wacker Dr., forming what are now Stuyvesant High School (northwest) and Northwest Side High School (southwest). His donation remains one of Northwestern's largest benefactors today. In 1890 Jens Jensen opened his second store called "The Old Mill." This store served as a stopping point for travelers heading downriver from Chicago via Mad River Bridge or Newton Abbot Railroad Station before continuing on foot or horseback overland to Rockford or Joliette respectively In 1901 Jens Jensen married Anna Christensen who lived with him until her death in 1936 In 1903 Gertrude Kapp established her own bakery located at 5 West Main Street which continues operation today as Kapp's Bakery Incorporated In 1911 Julius Rosenwald organized Sears Roebuck & Co., based out of this same building where Jensen had operated his department stores earlier that century In 1933 Harry Houdini performed an illusion show at Regal Theater near Southport Road/Nagle Rd., just west sideofpresentdayNorthAuroraHighSchoolandjusteastsideofpresentdayNagleRoadbetweenForestGldDriveandWackersDraigeanearly20thcentury stage performance record
