North Aurora is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. North Aurora is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The land that now comprises North Aurora was first settled by farmers in 1836. The town of North Aurora was chartered on February 22, 1854, and named for General James B. Kane. In 1870, the railroad arrived and changed the landscape of the town significantly; many businesses closed because of competition from trains. In 1898, an effort to clear land for a new cotton gin led to a dispute between residents and local farmers over who would get possession of the soil first. A group of men from nearby Crystal City seized control of what became known as "Gin Alley", preventing anyone else from using it until they had obtained all necessary approvals from Kane County officials. This action demonstrated how polarized opinion had become about cotton production in north central Illinois – both sides saw opportunity while few others wanted to take advantage of it. When World War II began, many factories were built in north central Illinois; however, no one knew where battles would be fought or munitions needed to be produced so munitions bills exploded in price tags throughout southwestern Illinois just as much as they did here in northcentral IL. It wasn't until after Pearl Harbor that people realized we were at war and started looking for ways to help our brothers & sisters overseas- some came home with medals & some didn't but everyone agreed these weren't good enough reasons not to fight! After Pearl Harbor most people decided this isn't something we could do as a country-we're involved every step of the way whether you know it or not! So on December 7th 1942 someone (I forget who) put up a sign reading "No More Cotton Gin" so I'm assuming that's when things got different here? After all these years it seems like pretty much everything has been told at least once & some stuff still won’t die! Anyway back then there wasn’t really anything done except talk about it maybe sometimes somebody would try something but nobody ever did anything actually happened until recently (2010). Today North Aurora is known for its thriving agricultural community which has seen growth due to advances in technology and marketing strategies including online sales opportunities which have made buying produce more convenient than ever before For example Pinnacle Farms offers pre-packaged salads directtoconsumer through their website There are also several small grocery stores scattered throughout town along with numerous restaurants serving local cuisine including five star airport favorites such as Zinfandel's Italian restaurant and Karma Chinese Restaurant . The area now known as North Aurora was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. The first white settlers arrived around 1810, but there were few permanent residents until the mid-19th century when increasing trade brought more people to the area. By 1860, North Aurora had a population of about 350 people and was considered an important agricultural community. However, during the American Civil War, North Aurora sided with the Union side and saw significant damage from Confederate raids. In 1865, following the war's end, South Aurora took over most of what remained ofNorth Aurora while much of north central Illinois continued to be under Confederate control. During Reconstruction this region experienced some heavy economic growth as businesses reopened and new housing appeared. However, by World War II most businesses had closed and many residents had left for military duty or other opportunities in related industries. After World War II many residents returned to their homes and businesses while development changed little until recent times when new subdivisions have been built within town limits along with increased traffic through Route 4 corridor
