In 1902, when North Aurora became part of the state of Illinois, one of its first acts was to establish a courthouse with land donated by Judge Daniel Laddsworth. This building still stands today at 255 N Elm St., just east of Main Street (now River Road). During World War I (1918-1921), many residents served in military units including artillery battery No 2 commanded by Captain Edward Fenton from South Bend In 1922-1923 North Aurora became home to Kane County's first high school when East High School opened on what is now Patton Boulevard near Interstate 80/I-465 interchange

In 1830, construction started on the first block of what is now North Aurora Boulevard and West Ravenna Street and by 1840, about fifty homes had been built there. By 1850, there were over one hundred people living inNorth Aurora Village. In 1865, North Aurora Village became a town when it was annexed by Springfield Township. The first post office was opened inNorth Aurora on April 3, 1861; it was renamed Addisonville Post Office on December 1st of that year because Bennet Adair donated land at Addisonville Road and First Avenue in honor of his late wife Anna Howe Adair (1820-1912). The post office closed on October 15th 1961 due to consolidation with other towns within Springfield Township into one larger municipality thereby ending villagehood status fornorthaurariavillagethoughitsnameremainedunchanged until its annexation into Springfield Township some seventy years later
