The history of magazines in North Aurora, Illinois goes back to the 18th century. The first gun magazine in the town was established by Captain John G. Cook in 1792. Cook manufactured and distributed arms and ammunition throughout the Northwest Territory. In 1829, Captain Amos Kendall founded the Kendall Firearms Company in North Aurora. The company manufactured pistols, rifles, shotguns and other firearms products. In 1881, Captain John Hynes purchased the Kendall Firearms Company and incorporated it into the Kane Firearms Manufacturing Company. The company continued manufacturing firearms until 1958. On October 7, 1907, North Aurora became a city within Chicago after being annexed by the city from DuPage County. As a result of this merger, gun magazine production ceased in North Aurora but continued on in downtown Chicago until 1957 when all production moved to new facilities located at 111 West Randolph Street in Chicago). North Aurora was founded in 1855 by Joshua and Lois Ann Kapp as a farmstead on the site of what is now the city of Aurora. The town was named after nearby North Aurora Falls, which had been first known to Europeans as "Rhineland's Rapids." In 1857, the Kapp family sold their holdings in the town to John P. Weiser and his wife Anna (née Davenport). They renamed it North Aurora after their home state of Ohio. In 1865, North Aurora became one of eighteen towns in Kane County when that county was formed from part of Cook County. It remained an agricultural community until the early 20th century, when subdivisions began appearing throughout the area and industry took hold. In 1925,North Aurora Fire Department No. 2 was organized; its first Chief Deputy Chief was Harold Wiebe who also served as Mayor from 1926-1929 and 1945-1949 The post office at North Aurora opened on November 1st, 1850; it continued until it was discontinued in 1935 because of competition from more efficient mail delivery services operated by Chicago Post Office Nos. 3 and 4 In 1927-28 north aurora High school won first place in a statewide contest sponsored by Illinois State Board for Education under then Superintendent Amos Beall
On July 4, 1815, the first U.S. steamboat, The USS Constitution, arrived in North Aurora. The town was originally called Aurora but was renamed after George Washington because of his role in the Northwest Ordinance which established Illinois as a territory.
