In 1892, North Aurora became the site of the first shooting at a military exposition in Chicago. The event was an outdoor gunfight between American and French forces that took place near the old grist mill on the city's north side. One civilian bystander was killed and two were wounded before being taken into custody by both forces.
North Aurora is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2000 census. North Aurora is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become North Aurora was Nicholas Manthey in 1836. By 1860, there were 11 families living in the town. In 1865, local lumber baron and future U.S. Senator John Reynolds donated land to make way for a railroad station and community center on his property near present-day North Aurora High School and Community Center Drive. When the railroad arrived, it connected with other towns in Kane County by way of small tracks running through open fields; as a result, many farmers moved into North Aurora, contributing to its growth since it lacked any developed infrastructure or commercial district outside of its own residents. In 1902, Mundale Lumber Company opened a sawmill on the north side of town which continued to operate until it closed in 1984 due to environmental concerns about some of its facilities that had been built without proper safety measures such as water tanks that could burst if injured during operations. On November 3rd, 1907 (the date now known as "Independence Day"), North Aurora experienced its first tornado outbreak when several EF0 tornadoes struck throughout the village; one tree was downed along Main Street and one house was destroyed by wind damage alone. The storms also left two people dead and over thirty injuries reported across much of Kane County including five people who were killed outright within minutes after being hit by debris from homes destroyed by tornadoes that evening – this event became known as "The Night Of The Twisters". In 1916 (the year after World War I ended), work began on plans for what would become North Aurora Memorial Park which would commemorate those who gave their lives serving our country during wartime as well as civilian victims of conflict or natural disasters like flash flooding or earthquake damage – at that time only men were allowed to serve in military units so women didn't receive recognition until later years when more female soldiers served during WWII & Korea). North Aurora is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 15,614 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. North Aurora is one of the most traditional agricultural areas in Illinois and has been a center for agriculture since its settlement by European Americans in the 18th century. In 1907, it became an incorporated village. The first Europeans to settle in what is now North Aurora were Irish Catholics who came to look for land to farm near their homes in County Clare, Ireland. They brought with them their Irish potatoes and maize crops that they grew on their own properties or traded with other farmers around Lake Michigan or across the state of Indiana. From this early development, North Aurora developed into one of the most important farming communities in Illinois and one of its leading regional centres for food production and commerce. In 1836, John Kapp founded Kapp's Mills which became one of the largest cotton mills in America; he also operated a sawmill and gristmill here. By 1840, there were over 20 businesses operating here including five stores, two churches (oneMethodist) and two schools (one public). The community rapidly expanded with new developments such as a hotel (1857), post office (1861), library (1862), school annexe (1868), Baptist church (1892) – all while remaining tightly knit politically within her small rural community whose residents typically voted Republican until recent times when they have shifted increasingly towards Democratic Party candidates statewide. During the Great Depression years 1930-39 many residents left North Aurora for good due to difficult economic conditions throughout Cook County but returned during World War II as demand for veteran labor increased after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor%. Afterward many more people followed suit until by 1960 there still remained only about 10% of original population living outside city limits today making it one of America's most rural towns remaining largely unaffected by rapid urban growth rates during that time period Other major industries have moved away from these areas like auto manufacturing which closed down here in 2003ian followed by healthcare/pharmaceuticals(2006-present) . The town of North Aurora was founded in 1836 by George Fenton and his family. The town quickly grew, and by 1847 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1861, the state of Illinois authorized the creation of a new county within Cook County, and North Aurora was made part of that county. In 1886, theIllinois General Assembly created a new township within Cook County called North Aurora Township. On October 1, 1907,North Aurora Township became an independent municipality with its own government and budget.
