North Aurora, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. North Aurora is bordered by the cities of Downers Grove to the south and west and Evanston to the north. The first settlement in what would become North Aurora was made on May 10, 1836 when three men named Orr, Armstrong and Mapes surveyed a land grant for John Dolan. Dolan built a cabin on the site which served as his summer home until 1840 when he sold the land to George Kinney for $100. In 1845 two brothers named Green named their farm "Green's Prairie" after their father who had also settled in that area in 1835. The Kinneys lived there until they sold it in 1865 to James Laughlin for $2,500 cash. In 1870 Nicholas Hickey founded an agricultural products company called Hickey & Hickey with himself as president and Jeremiah Crowley as vice president. Mr. Crowley became interested in local politics and ran for office several times including twice being elected Mayor of North Aurora but lost each time due to term limits set by the then-governor Kane decreeing that no one could serve more than four years consecutively without running again). On November 3rd 1870 Mr Crowley was elected Mayor of Chicago against incumbent Samuel Insull with over 60% of the vote from all sections of town (north side only) . After serving one term mayor Crowley returned to his agricultural products company which he directed until its sale in 1907 to Joeseph Calshan who operated it until its closure in 1951 under various names including Eastern General Mills before becoming part of Archer Daniels Midland . He also served as an Alderman on Council from 1902-1914 representing Ward 1 (the northwestside section now known as Roscoe Park) . He was credited with creating or helping create many street names such as Foster Avenue (now Dearborn), Racine Boulevard (now Wabash Avenue), Kedzie Boulevard (now Roosevelt Road) etc.. Additionally North Aurora has 2 parks: Washington Park located east of I-88 exit 191A off State Street between Roscoe Road/Wabash Avenue and Batman Drive/Kedzie Boulevard; and Apple Valley Park located within city limits on Wabash Avenue just south of Interstate 88 exit 191A off State Street near Roscoe Road/Wabash avenue

It was founded by John Davenport and his family in 1847 as a small farming community on the north side of what is now Kane County. The first post office in North Aurora was established in 1851. In 1870, J.P. Griggs organized what would become the first blacksmith shop in north Aurora and opened it to serve all residents of the town. The town's first school was built in 1872 and became known as "Griggs Normal School". In 1895, local farmers formed a lending association to help finance construction of a new school building that would replace the old one which had been destroyed by a fire four years earlier. This new school building remains standing today and is used as offices by North Aurora Township government today. In 1907, Northwestern Electric Railway constructed an electric line from Decatur to North Aurora for service within the Chicago market area; this line led to increased tourism for north Aurora which helped contribute to its growth over time. In 1916-1917, North Aurora developed into one of the most popular tourist destinations for summertime with its many lakes and hills providing plenty of opportunity for swimming or fishing; thanks also to nearby lumber mills that supplied much of northaurora's early development infrastructure North Auroras football team made it back into college playoffs after 3 seasons drought
