There are several neighborhoods within City limits which may be described as less dense areas characterized by more rural character including those near I-95/UIC; these neighborhoods are Orange Park to the north, Elmhurst to the northwest/northeast, Lawndale southwest/southeast and Vernon Hills northwest/southeast According to 2000 U.S Census data Norridge has an estimated population densityof 96 people per square mile (39 people per square kilometer). This makes it one of Illinois' least dense cities with only 83 people per square mile (32 people per square kilometer) reported for Evanston Township which surrounds it on three sides

A post office had been established at Norridge on December 1, 1850, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. Norridge's history begins with four schools: one founded in 1851 by Rev. Samuel Morse; another built following a request from Mayor John Hynes; a third erected after School District No. 3 withdrew its support for education within the limits of that district on account of changes brought about by township incorporation; and finally an elementary school founded on December 15, 1875 which became known as Northside Elementary School when it merged into South Side High School (now North Side Community High School) two years later. The first professional resident (practitioner) to arrive in Norridge was Drs. George Sawaya and Augustus Weems who both practiced medicine from their homebase of Batavia near Romeoville before coming to work at Northwestern General Hospital on West Michigan Avenue in 1872-1873 then moving to Elmhurst Hospital where they served as Chief Surgeons until their retirement in 1907-1909 In addition to these physicians there were several nurses practitioner including Mrs Amelia Jaffray who co-founded our hospital’s nursing program; Mrs Mary Baird who taught German Immigrant Nurses how to speak English fluently before returning home to Northwestern General Hospital after eight years service here; Mrs Martha Kappanter delivered early children born during this time period now residing scattered around various locations all over Chicago but doing so without benefit of health insurance or social security which would have been provided if such mothers had lived closer to family members or friends . Many women did not have access even today to basic healthcare services let alone having their names engraved on historical markers due largely to lack of funding either local or national . As mentioned earlier many women did not receive nameplates until much later especially those living far away from townspeople or municipalities whose residents could still provide them Nameplates like Anita Pittman currently resides adjacent to her childhood home located just outside Ofawa village green though she views herself more locally situated as well “due my roots” she says regarding her upbringing within our Village while living adjacent Toawa Green today There are also quite some number of Nameplate recipients whose descendants reside outside our boundaries yet maintain close ties with us through our shared community spirit , culture & history
