In 1907, Norridge had its own private water system and electric streetlights were installed. In 1912, a general store and post office were built on Main Street; this store became known as theNorridge Mercantile Company until it closed in 1984. In 1925, Norridge High School became one of two high schools (the other being Park Ridge) within Chicago's city limits that required students to attend classes somewhere else during odd-numbered years due to budget cuts made by then Mayor Richard J. Daley;[1] however all but one student from NORRIDGE HIGHSchool graduated with their diplomas or certificates before graduation day due to either military service or moving away to find better opportunities during those years.[2][3] The only graduating class from NORRIDGE HIGHSchool that still holds its diploma or certificate is 1976 Class - Carolyn Reese who attended NORRIDGE HIGHSchool from 1965-1976

As part of Chicagoland's rapid growth during this time period,[2]Norridge quickly attained a stature comparable with either Chicago or Evanston – until then primarily agricultural villages located along major waterways (such as those around Deerfield Harbor on Lake Michigan) which had long been centers of religious services and small businesses.[3] Today Norridge remains an important center for industrial production withinCook County – home to such companies as Kimberly-Clark,[4][5][6] Peabody Coal,[7][8] Ford Motor Company,[9] Dow Chemical Company,[10][11][12], McCormick & Co., Hershey Chocolate Company[13],[14], Apple Inc.[15], IBM,[16], Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Department Store[17], Wrigleyville [18], and DuPont de Nemours & Co.. According to 2000 UF Population Estimates (released in June 2006), there are more than 14 thousand residents employed within local businesses employing some 21900 workers statewide.[19] The Village has also become well known for its annual fireworks show which takes place on Saturday nights throughout summertime - attracting many spectators from across Illinois who come out especially because they can enjoy excellent views of downtownChicago without having to miss anything!
