In 1892, Norridge was the site of one of the most famous gunfights in history. The fight took place between two groups of riflemen known as the "Norridge Boys." The battle began with a skirmish and ended with a full-scale engagement. In total, around 25 people were killed and 50 were wounded in what is now considered one of the largest gunfights in Illinois history.
Norridge is a small town in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 1,848 at the 2000 census. It is located on the border of Kane and Cook Counties. Norridge was established in 1853 by farmers who came from West Virginia and Ohio. In 1881, one of the first stores in Norridge was built by J. W. Weller and his brother-in-law, John Smeaton. A post office was opened in Norridge in 1882, and it remained open until 1957. The town originally consisted of just a few homes and a store. However, over time, Norridge has grown to include a number of businesses including two churches (Anglican and Methodist), a school (Norridge High School), a library (Norridges Public Library), as well as several houseboatscigarsanda golf course (Norridge Golf Course). Today's economy revolves around healthcare services for residents within the local area as well as manufacturing jobs in neighboring towns such as Carbondale and Mascot; however, Norridge still remains an important agricultural center with its own corn cribs and soybeans production facilities.

Norridge is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,623 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east bank of the Chicago River and is bordered to the north by Park Ridge and to the south by Prospect Heights. The name Norridge comes from Old English norreid "place whereon rivers run," which means "borderland." The first Europeans to visit what is now Norridge were French traders in 1765. They named it Forbach after a described as a large body of water about two miles (3 km) wide and 2½ miles (4 km) long flowing into the river near its junction with the White Rose Creek. A post office was established at Norridge in 1816. Norridge Township was organized in 1837, and then Norridge ville in 1847. The first school building was built on East Washington Street between State Street and West Side Avenue in 1838. It became known as High School No. 1 because it served all of northeastern Cook County until that date; however, it was later renamedLake View Academy for educational purposes only before becoming one of three high schools in Cook County when that community merged with neighboring Hyde Park on May 1, 1949. On July 6, 1954, President Dwight D Eisenhower delivered an address at Northwestern University's Arboretum Calling for Action Against Crime which called for gun control measures following shootings throughout America just weeks earlier including those committed at both Harrah's casino on December 14th near Atlantic City NJ and movie theater Aurora IL some months earlier which left thirteen people dead including six children inside Theatrical District Theater Cherubim Video Arcade located adjacent to IMAX Dome Grandview Place Shopping Center - these shootings took place shortly before Eisenhower deliver his speech Accordingly Lake View Academy became one of five comprehensive high schools within Cook County – along with nearby Ravenswood High School (now Glenwood), Homan Square High School (now Oak Lawn), Lincoln Park Zoo School (now South Shore Prep), Aldrich College Prep – while also joining other public high schools across Cook County such as North Suburban Junior/Senior High School (Belmont Woods)arguing that comprehensive education should be available to all residents regardless of socio-economic status or lack thereof Norridge continued serving as one of five comprehensive high schools within Cook County until 1975 when it merged with neighbouring Hyde Park leaving behind only RavenswoodHighSchoolandHomanSquareHighSchoolas remaining public high schools within Cook County prior to their merger As part of their effort to merge all five public high Schools into one larger entity they made changes both physically as well as operationally including giving each school their own assistant principal who reported directly to said assistant principals rather than having themreport through unified command structure .In addition each school had their own orchestra pit , dance studio etc This changeover led to increased animosity towards administrators among students who felt like they were being shafted while still receiving good instruction despite complaints from parents about how things were run previously
Norridge was founded in 1837 by John Norridge and his wife, Sarah. The town developed around the railroad junction it formed with Moline and Rockford. In 1870, the population of Norridge was 2,500. It grew rapidly during the Second Great Chicago Fire of 1871, and reached 10,000 by 1881. The fire destroyed most of the town but did not damage its infrastructure; it continued to grow slowly until 1920. In that year, Norridge became a city and had a population of over 20,000 people.
