The following year, January 1st, 1837, Norridge incorporation created a board of trustees to manage the village's affairs. On this date also, an ordinance was passed establishing regulations forgun ownership within the municipality. On October 15th, 1839Norridge became the second town in Cook County to establish a fire department. This department did not exist until 1860 when it was merged into the Chicago Fire Department. In 1840Norridge incorporated as a city and by law prohibited its citizens from owning firearms except for those used for personal protection purposes. However this prohibition was repealed on December 3rd of that year by an act of the City Council.

It is the largest community in Cook County by population and the second-largest municipality in the Chicago metropolitan area.Norridge was founded on December 4, 1892 by Norwegian immigrants Ole Hagen and his wife Emma Johanne Weiler as a farmstead called Norridge Grove. The name "Norridge" comes from "norre", meaning "north." The first post office for Norridge was established in 1896. In 1902, German immigrants Drusilla Kapp and Wilhelm Heinemann moved to Norridge from Staunton Township, Indiana and started a grocery store there. By 1912, Norridge had a school and two churches: First Presbyterian and Swedish Evangelical Lutheran. In 1916, both churches combined to form one congregation under the name of East Side Lutheran Church (later known as Emanuel Lutheran). In 1926, Danish immigrants Arne Nielsen and Sigrid Jensdatter Petersen bought land east of Main Street for what would become Norridge Park. They began building an agricultural complex that included five houses/condos; today's Schubert House still stands within this property. A new post office was built just north of their estate on Maynard Road in 1928; it served as the village's center until its closure in 1972 when all services were consolidated into the new village of Lake Forestshore. Norridge went through several periods of growth during its early years – although some residents did not appreciate that their taxes went to support so many other people living close by instead of themselves or their own family members back home– culminating with its incorporation as a village on October 1st 1934 after winning an election held simultaneously with Cook County's creation via statehood proceedings that year With this change came increased autonomy over local decisions including zoning laws which allowed for specific types of development (residential/commercial) while also authorizing annexation by neighboring municipalities which would then provide services such as schools etc., setting off yet another period of growth for what would come to be known simply as "Norridgewood". For most residents however things continued much same with limited options other than shopping at local businesses located within walking distance or taking public transportation to get around town (which at that time consisted mainly of horse-drawn cars). Norridge is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Norridge was founded by parents of Reverend George Norrington and his wife Sarah in 1837 as a small farming community named after them. The city of Chicago annexed Norridge in 1874 and renamed it after George W. Norris, the first Republican Mayor of Chicago (1873-1875). As part of that annexation, Norridge lost its village status but continued to function as an unincorporated community within Cook County. In 1960, the City Council decided to annex all of Cook County into a larger city and so Norridge became one of the "new cities" created from that merger. The original home for the post office which opened on December 12th 1860 is now on Park Boulevard in Elk Grove Village. The building still serves as a government center for that township today with an Annexation desk inside and outside where residents may file their annexation petitions during non-business hours (except for Thanksgiving Day when business offices are open). In 1969, after years long efforts by citizens, the Township voted to rename itself "Norbridge". This name has been kept ever since due to its resemblance to both George Norris' birthplace near Boston and also because many people who live there originally hailed from either Boston or nearby Ironton Heights which was then considered part of Norridge until 1960 On January 1st 2021 through ordinance #2017-542 passed by Township Board & Resolution #2018-033;Norbridge Township will become micropolitan municipalities with full powers to regulate all aspects within their boundaries including but not limited to zoning ordinances & services provided by fire Dept., schools/healthcare providers etc.; becoming one municipality under control of Chicago Metropolitan Police District
