In 1847, another man named Isaac Norris bought a share in the store from John H. Cook. Norris renamed his business "Norris Guns." The business continued to grow quickly, and by 1850, Norris had four stores across town. In 1852, Norris opened a store on State Street near the now defunct Slagel Mansion. This store was very popular because it sold guns both new and used. By 1860, NorridgE had six stores employing around seventy-five people total (including twenty-one sales clerks). This growth was mostly due to the popularity of handguns which were becoming more popular every year until they reached their peak in 1865 when they accounted for almost 60% of all firearm sales statewide!

The village was founded in 1847 and incorporated in 1897. Norridge is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Norridge was named for Reverend John H. Norridge (1816-1893), an American Presbyterian minister who served as pastor at Norridgeville from 1847 to 1893. The original plat for the town included what is now the north side of State Route 3 and a small part of present-day Addison Avenue between Dearborn Street and Cicero Avenue. In 1848, when a road was first surveyed through Norridge, it ran east–west just north of where Addison Avenue presently meets State Route 3; this road became known as "The Ridge". In 1853, when a second plat was filed for Norridgeville, portions of what are now Elmhurst Road and Cicero Avenue were included; these areas became known as "Southside". In 1861, when Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company moved its corporate headquarters from Decatur to Chicagoland (then called “the northwest corner”), it leased 5 acres on Goodspeed Drive south of present-day Cicero Avenue for use as its main plant; this land became known as "The Park". That same year also saw the incorporation of Southside into Norridgewood Township. In 1865, when Normal School (now Northwestern University) opened in nearby Evanston on North Clark Street near Lake Michigan Boulevard,Norridgewood was renamed North Side Township after that school's opening; South Side followed suit in 1868. 2 years later NORRIDERIDE COOPERATIVE FOUNDATION INC., chartered on October 15th 1870 by Rev'd JH NORRIDGE with 8 members bearing interest subscribed $10 per share capitalization 1¢ par value each executed by stockholders meeting at home No 28 Wabash avenue This new cooperative society promoted agricultural production & made possible thru loans free farm machinery needed to carry out plan adopted unanimously reflect deep feeling among farmers about needs connection with city larger than individual farms& towns
