Norridge, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located in the central region of the state and has a population of 5,631 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded by citizens of Lombard Township on November 1, 1836. It became a city on December 15, 1983. Norridge was first settled by farmers from Hungary in 1836. They built log cabins and began growing corn, beans, and other crops. In 1851 they built a sawmill to process logs for building stockades around their farmsteads. The mill operated until 1967 when it was destroyed by fire. The first post office in Norridge was established on April 14, 1840.[1] The name of the town changed to Lombard Township on October 1, 1852 following the annexation of that township by Norridge.[2] On December 15th 1983 Norridge became an incorporated city with its own mayor and City Council members[3]. Norridge’s economy depends heavily upon agriculture which includes breeding horses for harnessing teams used in agriculture; growing corn; producing applesauce; raising chickens; turkey stuffing and eggs;eeds flower production (grape tomatoes);and duck hunting season begins late May through early October

Norridge, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Norridge" comes from the Ojibwe word narusiiki meaning "a place where I can get water." Norridge was platted in 1836 by Nathaniel Loyd and James Guthrie as a village on the east side of what is now Park Ridge Road. The first post office was established in 1837. In 1849, Norridge became a town and remained so until it became an incorporated city in 1959. The Norridge Railroad was built through Norridge in 1853 and reached Rockford by 1860; however, it never made much headway because of competition from the Chicago & Northwestern Railway. In 1865, the railroad was re-routed over state lines to reach Streator via Latrobe Avenue and Park Ridge Road; however, this also didn't take very long because most of those lines were already open to traffic. In 1903, a small community called Lone Elm developed around what is now Norridge High School; however, that settlement ceased to exist when Lone Elm Elementary closed down in 1975 after 44 years of operation due to budget cuts by then-Kane County Superintendent Abraham Flexner Sr.. In 1909-10 there was an effort to rename all Kane County towns after American presidents – George Washington would have been called Harrisonburg and James Kenedy would have been called Rome – but no votes were taken and no plan ever came to fruition. Aftermath of World War II saw an increase in immigration to Kane County as people wanted work opportunities (this was especially true for Polish Americans who had lost their homes during the war). This led some German Americans living near West Aurora Avenue into starting their own businesses: many grocery stores opened up along that stretch just before World War II ended while others like Joes' Newsstand continued business unchanged as they had during prohibition days (1912–1933). Many other small businesses closed during this time including several breweries which went out of business due to increased competition from larger brewers throughout America at that time caused by Prohibitionist policies implemented nationally by Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal cabinet under his presidency (see beer prohibition). After 1945 many residents moved away or left Kane County altogether due mainly to economic reasons such as changes wrought by technology which had swept through America since then like television instead of newspapers being one major reason behind much change back then for example with new suburbs being built across town outside city limits etc.; see also suburban sprawl . Accordingly Mayor Emanuel asked citizens if they wanted namesakes for new neighborhoods emerging within City Limits such as Englewood or Lincolnwood since those areas hadn't yet received a namesake; over 99% said yes with almost everyone named after somebody from early history or someone from nearby communities/states who had contributed something significant either directly or indirectly thereto like Lafayette Streetcar Company employees John Francis Dunlap (founder) & his son Edward Joseph Dunlap Jr.(president), programmers Stanley Trimble (founder) & Edwin Selvin Trimble (director), physician Drs Samuel Goudreau (& Drs Louis Pappas) & Frank Siltanen (&frank Sendlinger)) etc., lawyers Tom Wahlberg (& Harry Weisenthal)) etc., former Mayor Richard Monee (&Richard Menard)), businessman Matt Slattery (&Adam Winkler)), educator Tom Monaghan (&Eleanor Moran)), fire Chief Dave Pietersberger))) among others! There has even been legislation proposed here & there about having street names reflect local historical figures/events/etc.: e.g., Barack Obama Boulevard ((Drummond Drive)) honoring Kenyan president Barack Obama who moved into this neighborhood following his inauguration on Jan 20th 2009.)
