Norridge is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,652 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Norridge was first settled in 1836 by Swedish immigrants who named it Norröd. In 1845, the community formed a school district and changed its name to Norridge after Congressman John P. Norridge (1811-1892). The town was platted in 1854 and became a village in 1860. Residents voted to incorporated as a town on November 3, 1871; the incorporation made Norridge the second largest city in Cook County after Chicago. On March 14, 1904, Orchard Park merged with nearby Cicero Township to form Cicero-Norridge Township. The merger made Norridge one of Chicago's five "inner suburbs." The current name was given to the township when it annexed into Cicero on February 1, 2007 following a referendum vote by residents of both townships over proposals to change their namesakes' namesakes: Orchard Park (now Plainfield) and Cicero (now Arlington Heights). The economy of Norridge is based mainly on agriculture and education; however there are also some small businesses involved in manufacturing products such as clothing and home goods. There are three schools within the town--Norridge Central High School, which serves students from grades 9 through 12; Northside Elementary School for grades K-2; and Southside Intermediate School for students 3-5 years old. There are also two churches located within the town limits: First Baptist Church serving parishioners from ages 4 through adult Sunday services; Second Baptist Church serving congregations from ages 7 through adult worship services Saturday mornings until 7pm.; both churches have been active for many years providing religious services for local residents as well as teaching children about Christianity and other faiths throughout the morning hours before school begins for all children inside either church building during school days or outside during afternoons/evenings when no services are offered
