Norridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Norridge was founded in 1851 by Captain John Norris and his family. The first post office in Norridge was established in 1855. In 1871, the community became a village under the name of Rolling Prairie. In 1904, Rolling Prairie merged with Norridge to form Norridge Township. The first school in Norridge was built on land donated by Captian John Norris and Mrs. Mary Ayer in 1855; it served as a school until1872 when additions were made to the building which included a library and an attic for classes inside the home; this new school also seated up to fifty students inside while outside supplies were transported to and from school on horseback or wagon drawn by four oxen (later replaced by automobiles). In 1906, when Rollin Prairie Township merged into Norridge Township, Captain John Norris' donation of additional land became available for educational purposes within that township limits as well as within rolling prairies annexation boundaries subsequent thereto resulting in what is now known as Park Ridge Elementary School being built adjacent to First National Bank across I-94 from where it meets US 24/I-290 just south of rifle range off of Hwy 648 (now Wacker Drive) . This addition led directly to one less student attending school but increased enrollment at other schools due to park ridge's location making it easy for parents and children alike access quality education regardless of parental income levels or geographic distances
