The valley flows for about 125 miles before emptying into Lake Michigan several miles east of Chicago proper

The modern rifle was born in 1795 when Frenchgunsmith Francois Bouteille developed a design named the Girondin Rifle. This weapon consisted of a stock with two legs that could be raised to allow firing from kneeling or standing positions. The Girondin Rifle quickly became popular among French militarians and troops across Europe, serving as the basis for all future rifles while also being well adapted to various battlefield conditions. In 1814, American Major George Merriman invented what is now known as an open bolt rifle – this gunfired projectiles using closed bolt technology which allowed it to be more accurate than prior designs. From here on out, firearms underwent many changes as advances were made in technology and engineering along with changing military needs and strategies throughout history
