Niles Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1868 by a group of men from Niles,IL. The club soon became involved in rifle and pistol shooting competitions. In 1875, the club organized its first Annual Meeting which was attended by members from throughout the area. The meeting decided to hold an annual meeting at the old Masonic Temple in downtown Niles. In 1886, the club moved to its current location on State Street just east of Illinois Central Railroad tracks. During this time, membership grew rapidly as people began to interested in joining theclub for sport shooting and competition. In 1916, the club upgraded their facilities and started using shotguns for target shooting. At this time, shotgun shooting became an important part of the club's program and they continue to use shotguns for target shooting through today. The Niles Rifle & Pistol Club has been hosting various types of shoots including Trap, skeet, IPSC (instructor/student), 5-shot matches with trap/shooting dogs (5H), 10-shot matches with trap/shooting dogs (10H), Plinking events with pistols only (Plymouth Breeze) and more recently AK47 rifles contests targeted at young adults age 18 or younger for fun days out each summer!
Niles, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,813 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Illinois after Chicago. Niles was founded on July 4, 1837 by David Sagers and Moses Chilton. When the Ohio–Indiana Railroad came through Niles in 1849, it brought people and goods from Lockport-on-the-Lake and other villages in Northern Indiana to what is now Niles. The town grew rapidly with manufacturing businesses such as flour mills and paper mills until World War II when residents turned to agriculture for support; however, since then there has been an escalating trend of professional/managerial jobs moving into the city center while traditional industries have passed away or shrunk significantly.
