New Lenox, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 33,955 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. New Lenox is located on Lake Michigan and borders the city of Chicago to the south and west; Joliet Township to the east; Noble Township to the north-northwest; and Rockford Township to the northwest. The land that now makes up New Lenox was first settled by Quakers in 1795. In 1837, Nicholas Mellor bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of land from John D'Olier for $2,000. Mellor named his new community after LordLenox in England who had given him a home there as a gift. The town's first store opened in 1838 on State Street between Trinity and Adams Streets. In 1845, John Jordon purchased 8 miles (12 km) of woodline from David Dixon for $5 per mile (1 RM). That same year, James Prentice donated 5 acres (20 square kilometers) of lumberland near present-day Porter Road to help build a millinery shop and schoolhouse which eventually became known as Prentice Hall School of Engineering & Technology. In 1848, Isaac Butterfield laid out an agricultural township called Butterfield Landing on what are now Park Avenue and Madison Streets within what is today downtown New Lenox limits. This suburban development was quickly followed by North End which grew up around Lincoln Boulevard between Wacker Drive and Randolph Street in north-central New Lenox – designation only applied until 1954 when most of Lincoln Boulevard were rerouted through Kendall into Rockford Township so that it would form Northwestern IL’s border with DuPage County before continuing northeast into McLean County via I-294/I-88 Automotive Center exit #2 near Wheaton Airport outside Bloomington “to become” Normal IL’s border with Kane Co., just beyond DeKalb Co./Peoria River Valley Border Priorities Plan Area No 2 Redundancy Zone since plans included all or nearly all village townships lying along I-355 corridor prior to its southern extent including parts or even entire cities like Peoria also straddling River valleys prior To my time these planned village boundaries were more like convenience stores / gas stations closed off streets cornering major highways

New Lenox, Illinois is a small town in the southeastern corner of Illinois. The population was 3,728 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European to set eyes on what is now New Lenox was Jesuit Father Pierre-Jacques Marquette in 1679. He named it after his home near La Salle and then crossed the great Lakes region to find new land for missionaries. In 1763, John Adams and other delegates from Massachusetts met at lovely Lake Michigan's beautiful village of Galesburg to discuss forming a new nation. They chose New Lenox as its capital because it had been a trading post on the Great Lakes since before any Europeans had set foot in that region. The building of the first local courthouse began in 1775, and by 1802 all but one family were living in New Lenox proper (the exception being one man who kept an office out of town). In 1813, General James Kinsman decided this place needed more than just a store or tavern; he founded Kinsman's Mills which became one of America's largest textile mills. At its peak production capacity (estimated at 2 million yards per year) it employed over 1,000 people and generated $4 million in revenue ($100 million today). By 1925 all but two families were still living inside New Lenox proper; however, with advances in technology mill management changed so rapidly that most residents no longer operated their homes directly but instead leased them from companies like Armour & Co., Sears Roebuck & Co., Jardine Matheson & Co., DuPont de Nemours & Company et al.; many remaining within walking distance until recently when they moved into apartments built nearby during recent waves of investment by developers looking to create high-end neighborhoods Completely surrounding what was once downtown N/L has become upscale shopping malls complete with schools (Lenox High School opened here in 1924), churches (Gospel Lutheran Church Today - second oldest church west of Chicago), professional offices (KPMG LLP, PNC Banknorthwest Trust Company et al.), restaurants including several Olive Garden franchises as well as numerous high-end boutiques/stores etc... One could go on forever! New Lenox has seen various phases throughout its history: pioneer days when there were only five families living hereabouts; early 1800s when mostly farmers utilized this location due to great corn crops; late 1800s through early 1900s when manufacturing took hold as productivity increased along with bicycle transportation becoming available making it easier for workers to get around town;1920s through 1940s during hard times with few jobs available outside city limits so everyone stuck around until WWII when industry took off again allowing many people leave for good leaving behind smaller townsfolk feeling left behind again Today there are about 350 people living in downtown N/L with about 375 businesses employing about 1,500 locals including some large national chains like Macy's Incorporated and Sears Holdings Corporation while also having numerous independent stores such as Rees Jewelers which opened here back in 1922 and Owney Madden's Antiques which dates back to 1865
