New Lenox is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. New Lenox is located on the south side of Lake Michigan and has a rich history dating back to 1836 when it was known as "Lenox Hill". In 1892, John Daugherty founded what would become Ford Motor Company in New Lenox and became its first president. The town's ZIP code is 60603. The community began as a farming village on the east side of Lake Michigan near where it joins with Cicero River to form the Fox River. By 1860, most residents had moved away from the original site; only four families remained by 1870 because there was no more water available for irrigation on this stretch of land between lake and river. In 1892, John Daugherty founded what would become Ford Motor Company in New Lenox and became its first president; he also served as its general manager from 1902-1911. For nearly 100 years (1836-1992), Ford Motor Co.'s head office was located in New Lenox—the only time any car company had an international headquarters outside North America during that time period. Many iconic products were developed or manufactured here such as Dearborn’s “Detroit Rules” Tractors and Fords Model A cars (1912 thru 1957). Other notable companies that operated out of New Lenox during this time include: Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company (founded 1907), Jardine & Rice Paper Mill (founded 1912), Briggs & Stratton Manufacturing Company (founded 1915), American Can Incorporated (formed 1932) and Sears Roebuck & Co., Ltd.(owned by Sears Holding Corporation from 1923 until 1986). It wasn't just automotive manufacturers who produced items within reach consumers throughout America during this era; grocery stores and other retailers also enjoyed success thanks to expanding distribution channels due to good transportation options nearby including railways running through both townships along Interstate 90/I-Team highways linking Chicago with other Midwestern cities like Detroit, Milwaukee, St Louis etc.; however these days Interstate 90 stretches largely unopened except for occasional farmer performances at nightfall near I-Team exits 6 & 7

In 1870, Henry Morton Thacher became mayor and played a key role in creating modern infrastructure within the city including sewers, public schools, parks etc.; he also helped contribute toLenox's rise to national prominence. By 1913,Lenox had grown so large that it no longer fit comfortably inside its original boundaries; however it continued to grow economically until its annexation by Chicago in 1934 which caused much decline in its status. However during World War II lenOX saw some success when it created jobs for local residents who were needed on various military projects throughout Illinois In recent years there have been efforts made by city officials to revive interest in lenOX through activities such as arts programming or marketing campaigns; however these level of initiatives have not been successful yet
