New Lenox, Illinois is a small town located in the southwest corner of Illinois. The population of New Lenox was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is home to Northwestern University. New Lenox was founded in 1836 by General Josiah Gregg as a station on the Great Western Railroad. The first post office was established in 1837. In 1852, New Lenox became a village and was incorporated as a city on October 15, 1907. On January 1, 2011, New Lenox became one of twenty-six cities and towns in Cook County to be merged into the larger city of Chicago. The history of New Lenox began with its location on an agricultural section of what is now Fox Lake Township. John Smith built his sawmill there in 1836 and named it after his father-in-law - also named John Smith - who had settled near that site about 1794. The mill continued production until 1862 when it closed because of competition from more efficient mills nearby. In the early 1800s, Nicholas Conte erected some 25 residences northeast of present day Smithtown Road (now Indiana Avenue) for himself and his family; many others followed over time including several families from Northbrook who erected homes around 1840–1850 near where Park Ridge now stands (although not all were permanent homes). By 1850 all but two or three residences remaining standing were either still standing or had been replaced by new dwellings/buildings during that decade following heavy settlement within what later became Fox Lake Township (and surrounding areas). A few years later Sarah Kapp purchased 5 acres northwest of present day Potter Road which she donated to the township for use as public land; this donation helped establish Trinity Chapel parish church on this plot which served both community purposes such as burial and religious services for settlers until 1888 when ownership passed through to local government entities under charter granted by then President James Kapp himself – thus becoming known as "Kapp's tract". This property remained undeveloped until 1896 when Samuel Aiken donated 4 additional parcels totaling 43 acres forming today's Park Ridge (the entire parcel being donated except for 10 acres currently used for single family housing development). It wasn't until just before World War I did any major redevelopment occur with businesses popping up along current Northwest Side streets like Clark Street between Wacker Drive & Rush Street/Northeast Boulevard beginning around 1910 while much olderresidential districts east & west side gradually gentrified culminating with large scale demolition starting circa 1975 creating mixed commercial & residential properties stretching north nearly to Nagle Ave./Lake Shore Dr., although much smaller portions remain extant primarily unchanged since their original design beginnings

New Lenox, Ill. (June 20, 1812-January 12, 1868) was a small town in the northwest of the U.S., located on the Chicago River. It became an important center for learning and culture during the 19th century and is now considered a historic district by history buffs and urban planners alike. The town was founded on June 20, 1812 by Methodist missionaries as a place where they could minister to Indians who had been removed from their homes in Indiana by General Anthony Wayne's army during the War of 1812. The townspeople bought land around what is now New Lenox Square from the original owner of that name in 1824. In 1830, New Lenox started admitting whites who were not residents of Illinois or Wisconsin into its school system; this was unusual at that time because it meant that white children could attend public schools while black children did not have such access in those states. The town also began publishing its own newspaper called "The Lenox Democrat." In 1842, New Lenox became part of the new state of Illinois; this made it easier for people to get jobs and keep up with changes happening in other parts of the country. In 1850, Mayor John Haggerty built what is now known as Haggerty Hall as a public library which served as a center for cultural activities for locals and visitors alike. On January 12, 1868, when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Washington D.C., New Lenox lost all its commerce to Chicago due to Lincolns' famous Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery within United States territory then under American control. As a result, many businesses closed down or moved away from New Lenox over the years until it slowly regained some economic stability beginning around 1990s when more attention began being paid to its history once again.
