On July 16, 1861 (the day after Abraham Lincoln was elected president), Mayor John Daley designatedAdams Boulevard as New Lenox Boulevard in honor of John's memory. Additionally,Adams High School has been named for Quincy Adams since its opening in 1907. New Lenox experienced some significant growth after World War II; its population increased from 392 people in 1947 to 652 people in 2000 and then 901 people according to the 2010 census due largely to immigration from Latin America and Asia. Today's mayor is Rahm Emanuel (D). Highlights include new job creation initiatives such as "Make It Right" which focuses on increasing housing options for low-income families; revitalizing downtown with new retail and dining concepts including two high-end steak houses; and expanding education opportunities with two new universities - Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Journalism & Media Studies and DePaul University’s College Of Law - within walking distance of each other as well as numerous small businesses across many sectors including health care services/technology/agriculture/manufacturing/restaurants etc... In recent years much focus has also been given towards green infrastructure development such as rain gardens or tree planting near important intersections just outside the boundaries of downtown offering an atmospheric layer measure against air pollution caused by manufacturing processes taking place within close proximity

New Lenox has always been an important political center within Illinois. It has been the home of both the statehouse and the federal courthouse since 1861 when it became the capital of Illinois. Additionally, New Lenox is home to several universities including Northwestern University and DePaul University (both located in Chicago).
