The club enjoyed success during its early years by hosting matches and shooting exhibition events at local fairs. In 1885, the club merged with other rifle and pistol Clubs in Illinois to form the National Rifle Association (NRA). The NRA took on a more aggressive posture towards gun control during World War I, which led to increased scrutiny on firearms safety. After the war, NRA members lobbied for passage of laws regulating ammunition sales and use. In 1934, NRA member Samuel Colt produced his first handgun, the .32 Colt revolver. This invention helped spur an increase in firearm sales throughout America, which helped make NRA one of the most powerful lobby groups in America. Today, NRA members continue to play an important role in gun control efforts across America through their activism and donations.

In 1938–39 New Lenox experienced one of the worst droughts in American history with an annual income from agricultural products estimated at $1 million; however this proved to be only a transient humanitarian crisis as corn prices increased and food production resumed normal levels within a few years. In recent years there have been several large projects completed in or around New Lenox including: *The renovation ofLenox Community High School which reopened in September 2017 after being closed for almost 10 years due to budget cuts *A new hospital which opened in May 2018 called St Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center *A brand new football stadium called Homecoming Stadium that will be built next to South Side High School
