In that speech he called for political change within the United States and specifically mentioned America's need for new blood to help rebuild its infrastructure following World War I; this led to Naperville becoming one of many small towns throughout Illinois that supported Lincoln's presidential candidacy during those years. It wasn't until 1964 that napervilles public library opened their doors after much anticipation with plans to be open for only 10 years due to budget cuts but because of donations from local businesses and citizens alike it lasted 65 years! In 1990 City Council approved moving from its original location at 5013 Wacker Drive into new facilities at 7333 Naperthorpe Rd; this allowed us to keep our lovely brick building from being torn down!

It was founded on November 10, 1847, by Daniel Napier and his brother-in-law John Prentice. The first post office in Naperville opened on December 1, 1847. The city was named for General George Washington's birthplace in Virginia, though it is unclear how or when the General received this name. A post office called Northaven had been established in 1846, but it closed in 1849. On December 1, 1847, Naperville became the seat of Cook County following the merger of former two adjoining townships: Allendale to the east and West Side to the west. At that time there were only six incorporated townships within Cook County. The population of Naperville grew rapidly from its initial 65 residents to more than 300 by 1860 thanks to annexation of adjacent townships including Crystal Lake (1860), Mount Prospect (1861), Oak Lawn (1862), Arlington Heights (1863), Lombard (1864) and Des Plaines (1865). In 1870 alone, Naperville annexed three more townships including Tinley Park (1871), Elmhurst (1872) and Evanston(1873). In 1898 – just after World War I ended – naperville annexed another township which would become Centralia; this event helped spur development around Centralia during what has come to be known as "the Great Expansion". Naperville also played an important role in helping create Chicago's first public school system; construction began on May 15th of that year and classes were inaugurated on September 24th with over 400 students taught by 39 educators from twelve different countries! In 1902–03 a new waterworks system was completed which doubled the city's water supply while also creating new industrial areas such as Lincoln Park and Rogers Park which continue to prosper today. A Fourth Ward ward referendum passed on November 3rd 1912 allowing for annexation of all unincorporated parts of Aurora Township making naperville one municipality with a total population exceeding 100,000 citizens! This event marked an era where municipalities throughout Cook County began annexing other municipalities forming what is now known as “territory management” systems whereby certain municipalities have greater jurisdiction over certain portions of their territory than they do currently while still remaining part of their municipal government under specific rules and regulations devised by local elected officials who are responsible for these functions. In 1925 Mayor Edward Jensch abolished wards completely within City Hall resulting in increased regulation/limitationof mayoral powers especially with respect to zoning changes etc.; however decisions made through “City Council Chambers” remain subject to review/appraisal by Mayor Jensch himself regardless cf any objections expressed through City Council Meetings or even written submissions! By 1953 consolidation had finally arrived with Fullerton becomingNaperville’s newest neighborhood followed quickly thereafter by Glen Ellyn & LaSalle . Finally effective July 1st 1970 Deanwood amalgamated into Naperville proper

In 1870, a railroad was built through Naperville and it became an important transportation hub for the community. Over time, various industries have developed in Naperville including paper manufacturing, garment production, and agricultural production. In recent years,Naperville has experienced some growth as a bedroom community for Chicago; however, its unique flavor remains strong and well known throughout the city
