Holsters have been around for a long time, and Mundelein is one of the oldest holster towns in America. This town was founded by George Washington in 1795 and has always had a love/hate relationship with holsters. On the one hand, people in Mundelein are proud of their history andtymology related to holster-making, while on the other hand they can be suspicious of strangers who seem to have no need for them. Mundelein’s earliestHolster Manufacturing shop opened up in 1825 just north of town on State Street. Over the years, other businesses cropped up all around town: blacksmith shops, flour mills, saddlery stores and even a jail! Despite this variety of businessesTexan Pete – or “Pete the Pistolero” as he was known – managed to keep his Holster shop open until his death in 1875. The original Holster Manufacturing shop still stands today and is now occupied by Lee’s Leatherworks. The first pistols manufactured here were handguns made from wrought iron or brass (later also shotgun barrels). One reason why pistols became popular here was that we could easily get them machined to perfection at home using our own two hands! Eventually other materials were used too: wood, plastic and finally composite materials such as fiberglass during the Vietnam War when holsters became an important part of military gear. During my visit to Lee’s Leatherworks I saw several examples of old firearms dating back to the 1800s including a six-shooter belonging to General John A. McClernand that was once displayed at Fort Dearborn National Cemetery in Chicago! Today these guns areClassics but you never know when someone might want to use them again…or maybe they just disappeared into some dark history closet somewhere!

Mundelein is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name Mundelein comes from two pioneer families, the Mundells and the Fergusons. The first settler in Mundelein was John Mundell who came to this area in 1829. He built a log cabin on what is now known as First Street. In 1839, Wm. Ferguson came to Mundelein and started agricultural pursuits with his wife Sarah Ferguson. They farmed until 1865 when they moved to their present home on Third Avenue near Fullerton Drive. William Ferguson was an important figure in the early days of Mundelein because he purchased most of the land that makes up the town today and donated it to the town for development purposes. The first store opened in Mundelein in 1881 by Aiken & Company which later became Jolders Bros Incorporated In 1897, Jolders Brothers organized a Merchants Association which became one of the leading forces behind downtown redevelopment and helped create special interests within Sacred Heart University (SHU) which eventually led to its annexation into Chicago by SHU authorities on February 14, 1903 In 1915, Pritzker family leased land contiguous with what is now downtown from SHU for use as an industrial park On July 12th 1921 Shreveport Times reported that "a new shopping center has been opened by Shreveport Development Co., Ltd., located across First from Holy Cross Church" In 1925-1926 a group of men associated with Armour Aircraft Corporation bought property adjoining Holy Cross Church off Central Park South for future development plans including but not limited to aircraft manufacturing facilities
