Mundelein, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was founded by German immigrants in 1836 and named after Friedrich Wilhelm Mundelein (1792-1873), a textile merchant and public official in Prussia who had moved to the area in 1824. The first school was built in 1837 and the first elections were held in 1840. In 1857, Mundelein became a village and one of its six memberships on the county board of supervisors. In 1898, Mundelein annexed part of Plainfield Township. In 1906, it annexed all of Park Ridge Township including what is now Elk Grove Village. In 1916, it became an independent municipality with a mayor and council system under which it continued to operate until abolition by the Illinois General Assembly on January 1, 1934 due to Proposition 10 (the so-called "Mundelein Dictatorship"). On February 13th 1922 two incorporated towns located east of Chicago were merged into Mundelein - Elmwood Heights to the south and Lawndale to the north - as part of an effort to consolidate municipalities within Kane County that were experiencing rapid growth due to oil production from Cook Ira Laughlin Field #2 (now Northshore Energy Partners) on Lake Michigan near Joliette. This merger was opposed by many residents as they felt that Elmwood Heights should have been absorbed into Lawndale while Lawndale should have been absorbed into Elmwood Heights; both towns retained their separate identities until 1958 when they merged into one municipality under then-Mayor Harry Jaffe's administration Mundelein has experienced steady economic growth since its incorporation as a village in 1908 although there have been occasional periods where real estate prices have plunged during hard times such as during the Great Depression or World War II when barns and other property values plummeted . Mundelein is a city in and the county seat of McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 137,693 at the 2010 census. Mundelein was founded in 1836 by Germans who came overland from Germany. It became a consolidated city on November 3, 1955. The first settler in Mundelein was Gottlieb Dethlefs and his wife Catharine Kappeler. They arrived on October 12, 1836 and started homesteading on the east side of the Desplaines River near present-day Mundelein High School. Gottlieb's father, Johann Friedrich Dethlefs had come overland from Germany in 1815 and settled in what is now Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He married Catharine Kappeler on February 6, 1827 in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. They had five children: Friedrich (1829-1905), Ernst (1831-1900), Johanna (1833-1907), Wilhelm (1835-1910) and Frieda (1837-1925). In 1840–41 Johann Friedrich purchased 640 acres north of town from John Prentiss for $2 per acre ($40 to $50 peracre at that time). Three years later he sold 640 acres to George Junkers for $4 per acre ($60 to $70 peracre). Jacob Brown bought 10 acres of Johann Friedrich Dethlefs land for $6 per acre($100 total) on July 30th, 1845 from John Prentiss after being denied purchase by Jacob Brown two years earlier because Prentiss' family could not meet his necessary financial qualifications for owning land west of Chicago including property situated within Mundelein Township which he also owned as well as other real estate west of Chicago according to the deeds filed with the Recorder's office dating back to March 25th 1830 pursuant to Section 901(a) of the General Act respecting township organization reported at pages 182 through 184 of Volume VII Of The Records Of The Clerk Of The Circuit Court For DuPage County compiled under The Authority And supervision Of Judge James Janklow published By compiler Assembling Committee On December 14th 1948 Page 248] . The first deed recorded with respect to Mundelein Township shows thatJacob Brown acquired 100 acres called "Eddie" or "the farm" located between Main Street and South Third Street east of Lake Michigan about one mile south of where current day First Avenue intersects it around mile post 5 below water level swampy ground extending into a small stream flowing southwestwardly thence across said stream meandering due north about 8 rods (.8 miles) long widthwise & 2 rods (.2 miles) wide depthwise & comprising part thereof also known as "Brown's Farm" ditto dated July 30th Aduana 1850 [ Map 1 ]. This brown tract along with another 100+ acres included east side lots Nos 7 thru 11 inclusive located just southwest corner former home lot number 4 occupied by Mrs. Janklow prior thereto Aduana 1850 map 1 . According such deed all tracts mentioned hereafter were surveyed by Capt Rufus Noyes Surveyor Augsburg Ohio August 1800 except tract No 15 situated just southwest corner former lot number 4 now occupied by Mrs. Janklow Prior thereto map 1 – this tract was surveyed Februarie 1800 sd same date by Capt Hennepin Co Recorder— thenceforth known as First Addition [ Map 2 ] Then there followed an era when nothing happened until people started coming here because they felt like it would be good place for them because there were no other places they could go so they started moving here during this time period too! There are records that show when people first moved here some people did very poorly so they decided to leave but many others soon followed suit so finally today we have 137 thousand residents living here! One way that people decide whether or not they want to move is if their house is available for sale! Even though many people are born here some eventually leave because there are better options out there! Some examples include businesses like Applebee’s restaurants which opened up right next door while others like Honda came before them! However somehow everyone seems able to find happiness no matter what happens inside their homes!
