By 1870, the number of residents had grown to 730 with a population density of 400 people per square mile (154/km²). During World War I, Mount Vernon served as an important training ground for soldiers from all over America due to its location near Lake Michigan just north of downtown Chicago atop high hills perfect for artillery exercises and maneuvers between naval vessels and army tanks during offensives against Germany along the Great Lakes coastline through what is now Michiganand Wisconsin.. During World War II, many factories were built here including Boeing Aircraft plants which manufactured military planes during World War II; Ford Motor Company's facilities produced cars; Hennepin County contributed $8 million towards development or construction projects; Over $1 billion has been invested in education projects alone since 1945 making Mount Vernon one of America’s most vibrant cities – home to more than 60 universities belonging to more than 150 colleges/universities spanning nearly every type ol learning path imaginable…. Today’s community is rooted in history both good and bad: From John F Kennedy’s assassination 50 years ago today until today we celebrate our most recent president-elect Donald Trump who will make history again by being sworn into office tomorrow morning… Today we are also grateful for our local police officers who have protected us since 1865….
Mount Vernon is a historic town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,187 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1811 by James K. Polk and his wife Julia Austin as a small Presbyterian settlement on the northeast side of Mount Vernon Township. The town grew rapidly after Andrew Jackson became President in 1828 and began calling for westward expansion of the United States into what is now Kansas and Oklahoma. In 1836, the Missouri Compromise prevented Illinois from joining Texas, which would have created a new slave state; instead, Mount Vernon seceded to become part of Indiana. The town's growth stopped when the railway came through in 1860 and it declined again until 1980 when it regained its heyday as an agricultural center with processing plants for food products such as cheese, apples, pork chops and other meat products.
