Mount Prospect remained an important community until after World War II when suburban growth began to take hold in the city center area vacated by students during World War II. After decades of decline, Mount Prospect experienced a resurgence following annexation by Northwest Side municipality Northwest Side Community Development Corporation (NWSCDC) in 2004;[1] this has seen new development along State street as well as significant renovation work done to many properties within the city limits including Northwestern University's Wrigley Field Campus adjacent to downtown Mount Prospect–a key factor for economic revitalization in that part of town since it has been left largely empty since then despite offers from developers who see prime real estate at that location because it doesn't have zoning regulations preventing them from building there.]

Mount Prospect, Illinois was created in 1838 by the merger of two towns, Mount Prospect and Maywood. The town of Mount Prospect had been founded in 1795 by John Dunlap and his brother James Dunlap, while the town of Maywood was founded in 1802 by Nicholas Mayo. In 1838, these two towns merged to form one new town called Mount Prospect. The new town's name comes from a location on the north side of Chicago where many early settlers gathered for religious services. The first settler in Mount Prospect was Elijah Porter who arrived in 1839. He built a cabin on the east side of Chicago and started a small farm that he named "Mount Prospect." Porter was an important figure in early Mount Prospect history because he helped to develop the town and make it a thriving community. In 1850, the United States government acquired about 160 acres (72 hectares) of land near present-day Mount Prospect for use as part of what is now known as Arlington National Cemetery. This land included some of today's most important businesses and neighborhoods including Oak Park, Elmhurst, Northwest Side, Lincoln Park and Shoreline Drive. The government began to build roads and other infrastructure on this land so that people could access these valuable resources. The first residents of Arlington were probably not very excited about their new surroundings but they soon realized that this land had great potential for growth. One reason why Arlington became such an important community was because it had access to all sorts of resources: money, jobs and homes! Over time, Arlington grew into one of the most vibrant communities in America due to its strong economy and its wide range of cultural experiences (ranging from classical music concerts to art exhibitions). After years of development work by some amazing people like George Washington Carver Jr., Arlington quickly became one Of America's leading cities! People from all over came to live here because Arlington offered them quality jobs, clean air and good schools! Today, Arlington is still one Of America's Most Vibrant Communities with lots going on every day!
