During World War II, over sixty thousand troops were stationed at Camp Randall across from present-day Mount Prospect while they prepared for Operation Overlord; however no Battlefields were located within present-dayMount prospect limits but instead Battlefields took place near Joliet and Elgin Heights IL (now Elmhurst), Danville IL (now Dixon), Rockford IL (now Rock Island) and Carbondale IL (now Champaign). In 1925 the first high school opened in town when Highland Park School District closed down its schools in Elmhurst & Northbrook areas due to public demand for better educational opportunities for students living outside those districts boundaries. Mount Prospect was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States, located on the east bank of the Chicago River. The population was 3,830 at the 2010 census. In 1871, John A. Logan founded Mount Prospect as a wagon and stage station on the east bank of the river for travelers coming down from Chicago. Logan had come toChicago from Ohio with his family in 1849 and began business as a saddler and coach driver. In 1851 he founded what is now known as Kane County Bank. He also started a flour mill in Mount Prospect that became one of the largest flour mills in Illinois. Logan's heirs sold their interest in Kane County Bank to J.P Morgan & Co., which among other things merged with National City Bank to form Chase Manhattan Bank in 1912. The property along the river where Mount Prospect now stands was annexed by Mount Prospect Township (later Cook) in 1918; however, some residents continued to call themselves "Mount prospects" even after township incorporation took place. After World War II many businesses closed due to low demand for goods exported out of Lake Michigan; but new businesses began to open up when auto manufacturers relocated their plants into nearby areas such as Downers Grove and Elmhurst during that time period The first post office at Mount prospect opened on July 1st, 1870 Mount prospect had three churches: First Methodist Episcopal Church (1872), Second Presbyterian Churches (1873), and Antioch Baptist church (1875). There were no public schools until 1893 when Mtprospect School District #1 was formed out of part of Normal School District #1 There are several interesting facts about this small town: They have been mentioned FOUR TIMES IN HISTORY BOOKS!
