Mount Prospect is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,828 at the 2010 census. Mount Prospect is located in the suburban Chicago area and is east of downtown Chicago. It is part of the Rockford–Rockford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Mount Prospect were French traders who stopped on their journey from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico in 1683. The first permanent settler was Nicholas Biddle, who purchased land from the local Indian tribe in 1815. At that time, only a few scattered farms and homes existed around what is now Mount Prospect. In 1837, George Stephenson laid out a road from Wheaton to Rockford and began developing his railroad company's potential routes through Illinois into Indiana and Ohio; one of Stephenson's goals was to provide transportation for grain shipments coming down the Great Lakes. By 1848, railroads had reached Mt. Prospect and met there with farmers going to market then continuing on their way back home; this encouraged business development which soon led to more people moving into Mount Prospect beginning in the late 1800s. Mount Prospect experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to military installations including Aurora Field (now known as Mid-America Airport) and nearby Renton Air Force Base both used for strategic bombing missions over Europe during World War II as well as its role as an aluminum production center for General Electric following World War II. After war ended, many residents left for various reasons such as better opportunities available outside of town or because they preferred higher populated areas closer to job opportunities rather than living near military bases or airports (). In recent years however, some businesses have revived within town limits such as a new grocery store being built just south of downtown since 2006 along with several bars/restaurants opening up over the past 10 years or so including two pizzerias (one closed). A large number of houses are also being constructed throughouttown which has helped keep alive some traditional Main Street businesses while also creating new retail options The community currently contains over 300 businesses employing over 2,000 people across five sectors--manufacturing ($128M), service ($68M), construction ($38M), professional services ($24M) and healthcare ($14M)--making it one of Illinois' most active communities economically speaking (). Additionally there are several colleges within easy reach such as Kane Community College & Western Illinois University - Carbondale which together offer nearly 60 locations across 12 states () making Mount prospect one stop you will not want to be without when looking for education opportunities!

Mount Prospect is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 34,812 at the 2010 census. It is the third most populous city in Cook County and part of Chicago metropolitan area. Mount Prospect was founded on a small hilltop in 1847 by Irish settlers named John Ahern and his family. The first post office was established in 1851. In 1886, the town became a village when it joined the larger municipality of Mount Prospect. The current mayor is Susan Fortunato and the City Council has 10 members with five elected at-large and 5 appointed by Mayor Fortunato to serve staggered four-year terms ending December 31st of each year. The commercial center of Mount Prospect is located near its downtown core, which includes both the old courthouse building from 1847–1876 (now used as an art gallery) and two other buildings from that time: One from 1892–1902 (the Hubbard Block), now used as headquarters for local media company WGN Radio; and one from 1907–1914 (the Masonic Temple). In addition to these older buildings, there are several recent structures built or renovated in recent years within walking distance of downtown: First Church of Christ Scientist (); Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation's Corporate Headquarters (); Advocate Health Partners' new corporate headquarters (); Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company's new tower () ; Park Slope Community Development Corporation's PNC bank tower (). Additionally, several businesses have moved into newly constructed buildings or properties nearby since 2009: KFC (), Subway (), Panda Express (), Starbucks (). One large development that has not been mentioned yet but should be mentioned because it had a significant impact on Mount Prospect over the past few years is Apple Inc.'s new campus planned for suburban Forest View across I-55 northbound between Sherman Road/Old Northwest Highway and Harlem Avenue just east of Loop 805 (). This will be much closer to downtown than anything else currently proposed for Mount Prospect so it will likely have more visible effects on business activity within that radius
Mount Prospect, Illinois was founded in 1821 by John Quincy Adams. The town was named for the Mount Prospect Estate on which it was located. The estate, which was once a large plantation, is now a small community of about 1,000 people. Adams served as the first Mayor of Mount Prospect and as the United States Minister to Russia from 1825 to 1830.
