Today,Mount Prospect remains an important community with strong cultural ties to its surrounding suburbs of Skokie and Round Lake Beach.
The Mount Prospect area was first settled in 1790 by the Potawatomi people. The town was incorporated as a village in 1836 and became a city in 1903. Mount Prospect is the oldest continuously inhabited municipality in Illinois.
