In 1875, the first gun sights were installed on a rifle in Mount Prospect, Illinois. The rifles being used at that time were of German origin and had no sights other than rudimentary telescopes attached to them. With the introduction of the .22 caliber revolver in 1892, gun sights became standard on most pistols and rifles. The Mount Prospect Rifle and Pistol Club was founded on July 9, 1873 in Mount Prospect, Illinois by a group of businessmen and soldiers. The club was initially called the “Mount Prospect Rifle and Pistol Club” and soon changed its name to the “Mount Prospect Rifle and Pistol Association.” The first rifle match took place on October 1, 1873. At that time, rifles were only made with one round per gun. The club also started holding pistol matches in December 1873. In 1879, the club moved from its original location at 309 Elm Street to 124 Niles Road in Mount Prospect. In 1888, the club moved again to its present location at 7715 Wabash Avenue in Mount Prospect Township. In 1912, the club changed its name back to the “Mount Prospect Rifle and Pistol Club” after acquiring a new rifle range at 7656 Wabash Avenue which became known as “The Range of .45s." The Mount Richmond Rifle & Shotgun Club was organized on November 8, 1870 in Richmond Heights by mechanics working for J C Higginsgunsmiths who had purchased some shotguns from John Sears of Chicago. The first shotgun match took place on February 12th 1870 with 26 entries. On March 3rd 1870, the newly formed rifle range opened at 2608 Niles Rd., just north of town center with three ranges: single shot; double shot; 12 ga old model guns only (rifle matches were still held outdoors). On May 11th 1870 an all-new pistol range opened at 9 E State St., just east of town center providing target shooting opportunities for those between the ages of 16-25 years old ONLY! There was no magazine or ammo storage available for pistols until 1896 when they acquired a shop next door from Mr R Hodge & Son Incorporated! On September 10th 1916 two members of the same family – James O’Brien (father) aged 53 years old and his son John O’Brien (son) aged 17 years old – each bought individual handguns from Mr David Lathambrook whose gun store was located within 500 yards of where we now stand at 7775 Wabash Ave.. They then went outside to shoot using their father’s handgun which he had rigged so that it fired automatically when you pulled the trigger! That evening there were twenty four shooters including six children under 15 years old who enjoyed participating in what turned into an annual event that has continued every year since then! After World War I both our ranges closed due to lack of interest but we reopened them circa 1948/49 after getting permission from Mrs Jane Doherty who lived next door! Mount Prospect is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Mount Prospect was one of the first villages in the county and was founded in 1847. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village is located on the north side of Chicago's Normal Park and was founded by General Moses Kane in 1847 as a small farmstead on what is now Kane Boulevard. In 1865, Mount Prospect became an incorporated town and continued to grow until it had a total population of 9,000 in 1990. The growth stopped as much as it increased after 2000 due to suburbanization and other changes in the region. However, with new development coming up in its periphery such as North Avenue and Wabash Avenue, Mount Prospect has potential to resume its growth again if done correctly. Mount Prospect experienced some controversy when two black men were arrested for disorderly conduct there during a peaceful anti-police demonstration on December 12th 2014 which eventually led to their releases after multiple pleas from local officials. This event brought attention to how inequality still exists within Mount Prospect despite progress made since then by both sides involved including Mayor Kurt Schmoke who condemned the arrests while also inviting them back for dinner that night instead of sending them away empty-handed

Mount Prospect was a small, agricultural community located in the heart of Illinois. It was founded by Unitarian missionaries in 1837, and soon became a popular spot for farmers and their families to live and work. The community continued to grow during the 19th century, thanks to its good soil, plentiful timber sources, and friendly people. In 1908, Mount Prospect was incorporated as a city, and has since become one of the most active communities in Illinois. Today, it is home to an estimated 100 residents who enjoy some of the best views in all of Illinois.
In 1847, the first white men set foot on what is now Mount Prospect. The area was part of the large and thinly populated Illinois Territory that was created by the United States in 1848. The territory included present-day Chicago, Oak Park, and other parts of the city that were not yet annexed into the larger city of Chicago. The first settler on Mount Prospect was James Neely, who came to the area in 1847. He built a cabin on an outcrop overlooking Lake Michigan near what is now Fullerton Avenue. Neely's house served as a center for local trading and socializing until it burned down in 1851. A second settler, John Hettinger, arrived in 1850 and built a log cabin next to Neely's original cabin. Hettinger also used his landing for fishing and boatbuilding. In 1852, he married Anna Powersworth, who had come over from Indiana with her family years earlier. Anna Powersworth played an important role in developing Mount Prospect as a community; she donated land for school buildings, helped organize local trade unions, and served as president of the First Presbyterian Church (later called Christ Episcopal). In 1854, James Neely's son Andrew took over management of Neely's Cabin & Farmstead from his father; Andrew became one of the most influential figures in Mount Prospect during its early years. Andrew Neely continued his father's tradition of farming; he grew corn and beans on their farm until 1865 when they moved to Cook County to open a grocery store at 111th Street & Woodlawn Avenue. A few years later they sold their business and moved back up North to 127th Street & Woodlawn Avenue where they continued to run their grocery store until 1978 when it closed due to economic troubles.$14 million later Acquisition by Albertson’s groceries reopens store with same name
