In 1837, the town was named for John Curtis Woodruff, an American preacher who had been president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). When Woodruff died in 1847, his wife Lucy gave birth to their son John W. Woolley in Mount Pleasant Academy's maternity wing. In 1850–51, Mount Prospect's first municipal government was organized with a board of trustees; it merged with Kane County's first municipality on March 14,1853 when both counties were created as part of the new state of Illinois. In 1865–66, when Chicago annexed all but two southern Cook County municipalities including Racine and Westmont (now Aurora), Mount Prospect became an incorporated village under Chicago Municipal Code No. 511*. On July 1st 1870†*, due to its incorporation into Chicago* [*see note below], Mount Prospect lost its right to vote within City Council despite being one-seventh as populous as any other village in city limits† *. There are also several smaller streets spread throughout the community which can be accessed through Maplewood Avenue or Winthrop Avenue from Elmira Road or Harrison Street respectively. Most people that live here call themselves "mountain people." They are descendants from Native Americans that lived here before European settlement began. Some say that these settlers came specifically because they wanted land near lake Michigan so they could build boats To get away from Boston during cold winters! These settlers started building homes back then called log cabins but now we call them homes because we want our children growing up here too! All mountain people come together every year at valley festival(a family event held annually near calender weekend)to celebrate their heritage{and have some fun!) Mountain people eat lots Of fresh fruits And vegetables everyday! We have our own library too! Our language is called"mountain talk." It's not like regular English though...

Mount Prospect was a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,834 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1847 by General James Lawler and his family as a farming village on the east side of the Kankakee River. By 1872, it had reached its peak of growth and had become a major railroad center. In 1902, Mount Prospect merged with neighboring Northbrook to form a new municipality. In 1907, Mount Prospect decided to secede from Kane County and became an independent city under the name of Aurora. The city's first mayor was Samuel Mudd.
