The Village of Mount Prospect was organized on October 15, 1887 by Patrick Egan and Other Gentlemen from the Township of Northbrook; two years later it became a full-time municipality under the name "Mount Prospect." The village's first mayor was John A. McConnell and its first treasurer were James P. McHugh and John Fenton. On May 3, 1889, Mount Prospect voters passed an ordinance creating a school board with five members instead of four as originally proposed and authorizing $5 per month for each member to be spent on schools that were not meeting their needs but were still considered desirable by the people of Mount Prospect. This ordinance helped to ensure that Mount Prospect would remain an educational center until well into the 21st century where it has become one of Chicagoland's most iconic villages and continues to play an important role in local life. In 1916, when Chicagoland experienced its biggest influx of immigrants since World War I with new arrivals from Russia, Hungary and other parts of Europe flooding in through Northwestern Illinois ports such as Rockford and Joliet/Nilesboro, Mayor James P. McHugh decided that enough was enough; he ordered all public buildings within the limits of Mount Prospect northward from Central Avenue eastwards to White Oak Drive – making it clear that thisvillage would henceforth be exclusively agricultural based with townhouses located only along South Western Avenue between Cicero Avenue (now Lombard Street)and Roosevelt Road (now Rush Limbaugh Boulevard). In addition to establishing Agriculture as our predominant economic activity throughout our history downtown businesses have been limited strictly to grocery stores or machine shops however we are blessed today with many fine restaurants including Joe’s Pizza which opened in 1967 across from McCormick Place while also having two excellent brewpubs - The Brewery District near Stateline Drive southwest of downtown Mtprospect while also boasting three daycare centers - La casa de las vacaciones off Lincoln Highway just west of Potawatomi Park northwest corner Cicero Ave./Shawnee Rd.,[2] making us home to some twenty seven professional sports teams playing their home games at various venues around town which includes four MLB teams plus several Arena Football League teams Today there are over 100 businesses operating in downtown Mtpropect employing nearly 350 workers who generate over $100 million annually tax revenue for our community hallowed ground City Hall building erected in 1929 remains one of Chicagoland’s most valuable assets serving as both a place for government meetings Municipal Court House built 1912 now serves as both Administration Building for City Manager’s office 2 blocks south side Of Main Street currently used by Police Department & Fire Department Water TowerBuilt 1909 still stands today providing essential water service

The town was founded in 1848 by George Washington Carver and others who came from Illinois to seek a new home for themselves after being expelled from Indiana. The town developed quickly due to its natural resources and its close proximity to other settlements in the area. By 1870, Mount Prospect had a population of over 350 people and was known as one of the most important agricultural towns in Illinois. In 1912, Mount Prospect was renamed Chicago because it became part of the city limits of Chicago following annexation by that city.
