Because of this lack of changeover time and overall stagnation for most communities located within Cook County,[2][3] some have begun to call Morton "the ghost town."[4][5] Nevertheless, despite these negative perceptions[6], Bennett Township administrators believe that there are good reasons for the community’s stagnation: due to low population density,[7] lack of development opportunities[8], and recent trends indicating that residents may no longer feel comfortable living in such an isolated location.[9] Nonetheless, given all that has happened in past decades,[10][11][12][13]), I believe that there are still many interesting layers to be uncovered about what made Morton unique and why it declined over time while other larger communities flourished. For example: did Morton's isolation actually contribute significantly to its decline? Was there something about the way that Morton functioned which contributed to its vulnerability? Or were some specific factors simply too costly or inconvenient for people living there - like taxes - to overcome? If so, could efforts be made by government officials or developers interested in revitalizing Morton be betterdirected towards more successful examples like nearby Lombard or Wheaton? These types of questions will require additional research but could provide insights into why smaller communities often struggle when compared against larger ones – even if they do not have similar demographics or infrastructure put together!
