The Morton Shooting Target Holder Company was founded in 1925 by J.W. Morton and his son, John W. Morton Jr. The company became a national success, manufacturing target holders for many American Rifle companies including Winchester, Remington and Savage Arms. The company ceased operations in the early 1970s but its legacy lives on through its numerous licensee brands which include Brownells & Ballistics, optic manufacturers Vortex Optics and LMT Tactical Solutions.

Morton was first settled in 1836 by John Morton and his family. The community name comes from an underground stream that flows through the town. However, there are still many small businesses that continue to thrive throughout the community including: arts & crafts stores, health clubs, restaurants and taverns as well as a growing number of independent pharmacies.
