Morton is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Morton was named for General David Morton, who lead American troops during the Mexican–American War and later served as Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant. The town's downtown contains the David Morton House, which was built in 1872 as a schoolhouse and now serves as a museum. Morton was founded on February 12, 1836 by Captain George Hinton and his family withbacker land grant from the United States Government. They named their new community after General David Morton (1784-1835), who led American forces during the Mexican-American War and later served as Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant. In 1893, Mayor John Cramer donated land to build what would become City Hall; when it opened its doors for business on January 1, 1907, it was one of only three buildings in Morton that were not built by residents or businesses themselves but instead were paid for with government funds given to them through various programs such as building grants and low interest loans provided by the United States Treasury Department known as "The Open Market". On October 15th 1903 an event took place which has been called "The Birth of Morton." A group of men including Andrew Carnegie led by Reverend J B Priestly went into town to purchase provisions from local farmers while they waited for wagon trains carrying goods back home to Pittsburgh via Buffalo Gap road northward overland passed through their territory providing food for settlers living near buffalo grass prairies east of Marshalltown so that development could take hold without destroying these valuable resources necessary for subsistence

The Kit was well-received by shooters alike; however, it failed to enter into mass production because it required expensive equipment and manufacturing costs.

The town was founded in 1851 by James Morton and his family. The first settler in Morton was John Witherspoon who arrived in 1847. In 1865 Morton became a station on the Underground Railroad. In 1874, James Atherton started a flour mill in what is now known as Atherton Park. The mills produced flour until1929 when they closed due to World War II shortages of food supplies. Morton has had several noteworthy residents including: Ulysses S Grant (1822-1885), author heartthrob Jay Gatsby (1897-1974), basketball Hall of Fame member Julius Erving (1937-2013), entrepreneur George Hennepin (1859-1939), baseball Hall of Fame member Honus Wagner (1900-1968) and first female high school coach Connie Mack (1920-1996).
Morton was founded in 1837 by Levi Morton and his family. The town was named for General John N. Morton, the first Territorial Governor of Illinois. In 1849, the town was moved from Wayne County to Cook County.
