Bullets in Morton, Illinois date back to the Civil War. The town was founded in 1847 by eight men of Irish descent who were looking for a new home. They named their town Morton after General Andrew Johnson, the first U.S. president to be impeached. Morton became a major center of ammunition production during the Civil War and into the early 20th century. During that time, it was known as one of the most important centers for bullets in the United States. Bullet production began in Morton in 1847 and continued until 1951. The company produced over three million rounds of ammunition throughout its history. In 1865, an ordinance was passed making it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to buy or possess firearms without a license from a responsible adult individual or organization. This law helped keep young people from becoming involved in gun violence and crime. It also helped create a market for more reliable handguns than rifles and shotguns available at that time. Today, Morton is home to several businesses that continue to produce ammunition products including Ammunition World Inc., which produces both shot guns and pistols; Mossberg & Sons Ammunition Company; Smith & Wesson Arsenal Co.; Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation; and Others subsidiary companies that make components used in ammo manufacturing such as cases, primers, bullets and projectiles

The town became a manufacturing center due to its location on the Chicago Great Western Railroad. The industry declined during the post-World War II decades but has revived in recent years with the emergence of new businesses and industries such as green technology and health care. Morton is located near the mouth of the Kankakee River on Illinois Route 2 and is close to I-57. It has a large industrial park that includes many companies such as Monsanto, GEICO, Caterpillar, Ford Ferguson Motorsports Park, PepsiCo Bottling Plant #1 (renowned for hosting drag racing), JBL Audio & Video., Pumphouse Casino Resort (home of the Pumphouse Philharmonic Orchestra) and First Midwest Bank (the largest bank in Morton). The community had a population of 10,000 before it lost its city status in 1970 when annexations by other towns led to an overall decrease in populations within Kane County from 21,574 at 2000 to 9,527 at 2010 census numbers. However some new businesses have arisen recently like Greenlight Energy which manufactures solar energy systems; Podunk Coffee Shop which sells organic coffee beans from small farmers across Illinois; and Blueberry BBQ which specializes in pulled pork sandwiches made with bbq sauce from local farms

Morton, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,847 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Morton has been home to a number of notable people including actor Tom Hanks and developer Jay Pritzker. Morton first became known as an agricultural center due to its large fields of corn, beans, and wheat that were used for food production and export. The town started off as a small community named Morton Prairie on the edge of what is now Morton Park. In 1881, the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad came through town and renamed it after General George Armstrong Custer's regiment which fought in the American Civil War at Fort Fillmore in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). The name stuck and by 1912 it had grown to be one of the largest towns in Cook County with over 5500 residents. The early 20th century was an important time for Morton because many famous people from around the world visited during this time including Harry Truman and Eleanor Roosevelt. During World War II, Morton played a key role in helping create Soldier's Home National Military Reserve Base which housed thousands of soldiers who were needed for war efforts overseas. After World War II ended, many jobs left town as technology advanced which led to slower growth rates throughout the decades until 2000 when new housing developments began to fill up much of downtown with more people then ever before making way for smaller businesses andhistoric buildings Today Morton continues to play an important role within local government with its Mayor currently serving two terms having been elected in 2020 as well as being chairperson for Parks & Recreation Committee

A number of famous companies were located here, including Monsanto, Apple Inc., Bayer AG, Siemens AG, Intel Corporation and Chrysler Group.
