Many businesses were established here such as McCormick & Co., Maytag, Prentice-Hall, Sears & Roebuck, Raytheon Aircraft Company (now part of Lockheed Martin) and United States Steel Corp.. The area around Morton became known for its agricultural products such as cornmeal, soybeans, wheat and oats; however since 2000s there has been an increase in office parks and housing developments here including Northrop Grumman Corporate Center Park (formerly Northrop Grumman Corporation Campus), First Midwest Bank Tower (formerly Republic National Bank), Sunoco Plaza South (later BP America) and TIFCO Plaza East (later Sears Holdings).
