Morton Grove is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Morton Grove is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European settler in what is now Morton Grove was John Doane who arrived on July 4, 1827. He and his family soon moved to a farm on the east side of town which they named "Doane's Prairie." In 1830, John Doane and his wife Phebe sold their farm to Andrew Jackson for $2,500. Andrew Jackson had recently been elected president and new landowners were eager to purchase land so they could improve it and become wealthy. The Jackson family CONTINUED TO OWN AND OPERATE THE FARM until 1863 when it passed into the hands of the McCormick brothers who renamed it "Morton Grove." On December 2nd, 1871, Morton Grove became an incorporated village with a population of 792 people when it merged with Elgin Township. On February 14th 1912, Morton Grove became a city after merging with Kane County. It slowly grew through annexation until reaching its current size in 1980 when annexations stopped because of high school overcrowding within city limits In 1990-1991 City Council voted 5-1 to annex neighboring unincorporated areas making MortonGrove an official city
Morton Grove was founded in 1848 by George Morton and his family. The city is named for George Morton, who donated the land for the town. The early settlers of Morton Grove were farmers and their families. In the 1930s, Morton Grove became a suburb of Chicago.
