Morton Grove is named after Captain James Morton who explored and surveyed the area in 1814. The first settler in Morton Grove was John Aiken who arrived in 1837. The Village of Morton Grove was organized on February 24, 1892 from parts of the villages of Westchester and Addison. On May 1, 1895, Morton Grove became a city with a population of 21,713.

Morton Grove is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. Morton Grove is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village of Morton Grove was incorporated in 1894 and merged with the town of Morton Grove on November 1, 1927. Morton Grove was established in 1837 by John Morton and his family as a small farming community on the banks of the Sangamon River. By 1860, Morton's son-in-law and business partner Daniel Webster had brought upience to agriculture there and developed a sizable market for their produce. In 1892, Harry Wirth bought out Daniel Webster's interest in the business and renamed it "Wirths". A year later he built a large cotton gin on the east side of town to process our produce. At this time it was one of several large textile mills operating in Kane County; other similar mills included those operated by George Pullman & Sons (now known as Pullman) on South Side Avenue west of Chicago, Jeptha Bowen & Son on Halsted Street north of Cicero, and American Can Company on State Street between Hyde Park Road and Lake Shore Drive (now Loop 410). With its own railroad station within walking distance, Morton Grove became an important center for trade with neighboring towns such as Romeoville and Addison. The 20th century saw great change come to Morton Grove; first through World War II when many men serving in combat left their farms to join the military; then through suburban development which spilled over into what had been farmland; finally through technological advances which have led to increased production at nearby factories while also drawing people away from residential areas for work sites outside city limits. Today much remains unchanged from earlier eras - including beautiful farmsteads nestled among rolling hills just south of Interstate 90 - but during these more recent years residents have taken advantage of new technologies including online grocery shopping available 24/7/365 ( groceries not delivered), widespread use of cell phones for communication and entertainment (cellular service is especially strong here due to favorable weather conditions),Sharing economy services like Uber or Lyft so that neighbors can dine together without having to leave their homes each night; although some aspects are changing faster than others: For example, recently all roads leading into town were resurfaced after being somewhat neglected for many years
