Morton Grove is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,594 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Morton Grove is named after General John Morton, who led the army that opposed American Indians in 1812 and 1814. The first gun target shooting event in Morton Grove took place on February 14th 1865 when a group of men from nearby Elmhurst shot at a buffalo game out in back of the local tavern. This was only one of many early-20th century gun targets events that took place throughout Cook County. Today, Morton Grove continues to be an important location for target shooting enthusiasts all over the Chicago metropolitan area. One of the most wellknown and iconic gun targets located within town limits is The turret from World War II’s Iwo Jima which can be found just off Elmhurst Rd between Jane Addams Boulevard and Orchard Road. This historic WWII Japanese military barracks served as both training ground for new American soldiers during World War II as well as home to some of America’s earliest air raid shelters! The city was founded in 1847 by James Morton and his brother-in-law George Rogers Clark. In 1865, Morton Grove became the first municipality in Cook County to be incorporated as a town. In 1888, Morton Grove merged with neighboring Mattoon to form the larger town of Morton Grove–Mattoon. On November 3, 1990, Morton Grove merged with Hinsdale to form the new city of Morton Grove.

Morton Grove was organized as a village on November 3, 1871, from parts of Northfield and Plainview townships. On February 17, 1893, it became a city under the name of Chicago with a population of 24,811. The current mayor is Lori Lightfoot-Kerr (D). The first settlers to Morton Grove were two brothers: John and George Morton. John Morton had been born in England in 1777 and came to America in 1782; he became an early settler in what would become Morton Grove. George Morton arrived in America about 1800 and built one of the first homes in what would become Morton Grove. He also helped start the first store hereabouts. In 1871, whenChicago was created as a city by Act of Congress pursuant to US Grant No 103rd Congress (March 14, 1867), Vernon Krantz sold land west of Cicero Avenue for $5 per acre to make way for new development that would include streetscape improvements including boulevards running through villages such as Northfield (now Plainview) and Maywood into which Chicago had annexed some surplus territory following its victory over Mexico during the Mexican–American War (1846–48). 4 years later on November 3rd 1875-Orlando Drexel founded Drexel Institute & School on this site

Morton Grove is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,855 at the 2010 census. It lies at the center of the Kane County Metropolitan Statistical Area and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in Morton Grove were Methodists from England who arrived in 1837. They built their first home on what is now South Center Street. In 1881, they founded a Baptist church there and named it after their benefactor, James Morton Jr., an early settler in the area. In 1892, Morton Grove formed its own school district which included parts of Aurora, Glenview, Northbrook and other towns within Kane County. The original school building still stands today on West Cornelia Avenue near what is now PKH Preparatory High School. In 1938, Morton Grove became one of four townships that made up the city of Chicago; it remained an enclave within that city until 1985 when all but two wards were annexed into the city proper. In 1966-1967 (the year before Chicagoland's birth as a municipality), Morton Grove voters passed a referendum to annex all of its unincorporated territory to make up for decades of neglect by then-Mayor Richard Maki. Today Morton Grove has over 50 businesses including several large grocery stores and several fast food restaurants as well as many professional offices and homes owned by residents or staff from nearby businesses like KFC, Sears Roebuck & Co., Wrigley Field Inc., Ford Motor Company etc.. Due to its proximity to downtown Chicago - only 30 minutes by train - more than half the workforce in Morton Grove works in or around downtownChicago; this makes it one of few villages or rural communities located inside DowntownChicago limits where jobs are available for everyone regardless income level or zip code location
Morton Grove was founded in 1847 by a group of farmers who had migrated from upstate New York. The town, which is located in the northern Illinois suburbs of Chicago, became a major center for agricultural production during the 19th century. Morton Grove was also home to some of the first community clinics in America. In 1922, Morton Grove voters passed a referendum authorizing the erection of a city hall and park. The first building to be built in the town was the Municipal Building, which was completed in 1925.
