The post-World War II period saw a resurgence in economic activity in Morton Grove thanks to advances in technology and new developments such as Interstate 294 which helped connect the village with other municipalities within Cook County. Today, Morton Grove remains an active community with a focus on education and economic development opportunities. The village has two high schools - Northwestern University's McCormick School of Agriculture & Life Sciences and Northern Illinois University's Carbondale Campus - as well as several businesses including Applebee's restaurants, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Ingersoll Rand Corporation and Chrysler Canada Limited (formerly Jeep CJB Canada Limited). Additionally, there are numerous small businesses located throughout the village that support local agriculture and manufacturing interests while also providing jobs for locals.
Morton Grove was founded in 1848 by the Morton family. The town was named after David Morton, a landowner who donated the land for the community. The first settlers were farmers who grew corn, beans, and wheat. They constructed their homes from logs and built a school in 1850. In 1851, the village of Morton Grove was formed and had its own government. The citizens of Morton Grove voted to name their town after General George Washington, who had fought in the American Revolution. In 1852, the village of Morton Grove became a city and adopted its own mayor and council. During World War I, Morton Grove served as an airfield for U.S forces during the war effort. After the war, Morton Grove experienced growth as residents started to build houses onlying acres of land that they had acquired through purchases or donations. In 1925, Mayor Wojciech Piotrowski renamed the city into Chicago after meeting with Mayor John Raskolnikow of New York Cityhornyfacedman
