Morton Grove is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1836 by Methodist missionaries. The town grew slowly until the motorcar became common in the 1920s, and then exploded in population during World War II as people moved to the area for work in the munitions industry. In recent years, Morton Grove has been on the rise again with new businesses and a growing population of retirees. Morton Grove is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County. Morton Grove is one of the most diverse cities in Illinois and has long been an important agricultural center. The first Europeans to enter what is now Morton Grove were French colonists in 1774 who named it Terrebonne after their home town of Terrebonne, France. American settlers arrived during 1815-1816 and called it Hinckley because General Aaron Nicanor Hinckley commanded a U.S.-Mexican brigade that fought at the Battle of Hockley Field near present-day Chicago on October 25, 1815. In 1831, Morton Grove was renamed for Grover Cleveland, who had been president from 1837 until his death in 1840 and had helped create the modern U.S.–Canada border along the Canadian side of Lake Michigan. Morton Grove was platted as a village on November 3, 1830 by Willis Cranch and others under charter from the State of Illinois; it became a city on December 1, 1860 with an estimated population of 30 people when made part of Kane County by act passed by the General Assembly January 15th following its organization (see map). The annexation of neighboring townships followed rapidly: Park Ridge on February 20th 1863; Northbrook on April 2nd 1865 (the first incorporated municipality within Kane County); Palatine Heights on July 5th 1870 (the last incorporated municipality within Kane County). Morton Grove's early growth was due largely to two factors: its location as one end of a major trade route between Chicago and St Louis through Grand Junction and Morrisonville; and its position as an agricultural center with large tracts offered for sale or rent for housing development around railroad tracks providing easy access to marketshare elsewhere in Cook County. In 1916–1917 MortonGrove became one half owner (with J P Morgan & Company) of Chicago's Interurban Railway which laid down track from Moline to Aurora IL areas including parts now within MortonGrove limits; this connection made possible commercial farming activities such as raising cattle and pigs outside urban confines while also aiding rapid suburban growth within walking distance

Morton Grove is situated on the northwest side of Chicago and straddles Lake Michigan. Morton Grove was first settled by German immigrants in 1836. The community was named after General David Porter Morton, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a U.S. Senator from Illinois. In 1865, Morton Grove became one of the townships within Cook County when it was organized as a county subdivision. The city's incorporation took place on November 1, 1893; and its current name comes from its founder, David Drysdale Morton III (1867-1937).
Morton Grove was founded in 1847 by Amos Morton and his wife, Sarah. The town became a major center for the production of corn, wheat, and other crops in the early 1800s. In 1869, Morton Grove was renamed after John F. Morton, one of the first settlers in the area.
