Morton Grove is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the southwest side of the Chicago metropolitan area, about 25 miles (40 km) northwest of the city center. The population was 31,291 at the 2010 census. Morton Grove is one of eight villages in Cook County and one of sixteen townships in Cook County. The village had a total population of 9,898 as of 2009. Morton Grove was first settled in 1833 by John Morton and his family from Huntingdon Township, Pennsylvania. In 1834 he built a gristmill on the north branch of the Kankakee River which became known as Morton Grove Mill after him. He also built a house and other buildings near what is now State Street and First Avenue in what is now east-central Morton Grove. By 1840 Morton Grove had grown to include 7 households with 30 acres (15 ha). In 1841 he married Sarah Ann Calkins and they moved to their current location on North Milton Road northeast of present day State Street where they began to raise corn and potatoes for sale around their home. They raised three children: John A., Sarah B., Julius H. In 1847 John A.'s father died suddenly leaving him an only child at age 13 years old who then took over his father's business interests including farming land that adjoined theirs along North Milton Road northeast of present day State Street which later became part of Willowbrook Farms Incorporated serving residents within today's Morton Grove Village limits since 1974 when it merged with Willowbrook Farms LLC
