In 1836 Michael Parenteau founded what would become known as "Morton Grove". One year later another early settler, André Jacques Bouchard erected a cabin here which served as their home for many years until he sold it to John Cramer in 1840s. In 1871 John Wirth founded Wirth Paper Company which became one of America's leading paper manufacturers during the late 19th century and into the 20th century thanks to its innovative marketing strategies that targeted widely scattered markets all over North America with great success hingeing largely upon its high quality paper products such as tissue paper and mailing cards

Morton Grove is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Chicago and the fifth-largest city in Illinois. Morton Grove is named after Colonel George Morton and his family who founded it in 1847. Morton Grove's beginnings can be traced back to 1847 when Colonel George Morton and his family arrived in what is now Morton Grove from Kankakee, Illinois. The town was originally named for Captain John Morton who had come to America earlier that year as part of a group of Englishmen seeking land grants and gold Rush opportunities. At first, the town consisted of only a few homes with no businesses or schools. However, over time, settlers began to arrive and build homes and businesses around the new courthouse which became known as "The Crown". In 1855, Mayor Averill Hodge dedicated a public square on the east side of town that still exists today called "Hodge Square". This square served as an open space where citizens could assemble to discuss local issues or play games during summertime. In 1871, residents voted to rename their town after General Ulysses S. Grant because he had been nationally celebrated for his victory at Gettysburg which helped solidify American control over much of Europe during World War I. After Grant's death in 1888, local newspapers started calling the city Grantville because most people living there thought it would be more accurate than Morton Grove since Grants parentage could not be shown on official documents from that era). In 1916–1917 (due to World War I), City Council decided that all naming proposals should be put together so that one proposal would become definitive - then they would make an announcement requesting nominations for possible names for future cities throughout Cook County; this eventual name was "Morton Grove". In 1920s/30s Residents fought hard against proposed annexation by Chicagoland Airlines due to noise concerns but eventually gave up after talks with management revealed no plans were ever made to built an airport anywhere near the community center or downtown area – though some development occurred along Wabash Avenue between South State Street and Cicero Avenue). As late as 1978 residents were still fighting efforts by developers interested in building on undeveloped lots near theirsquare despite having received assurances from municipalities such as Chicago that those lots wouldn't become available until long into the future if nothing changed about how development regulations worked within those municipalities
